Experimental Design for Biologists, Second Edition

An Essential Resource for All Biologists!
A very practical and well-written explanation of how to apply the scientific method to biological research. This book serves the interests of all who produce and consume research in this field. Many thanks to the author for spelling out what some many practitioners learn by doing or learn by others simply expecting them to already know it. Very well done Dr Glass! I look forward to your next book!

A Much Needed Book
Interestingly enough, little to no training on the nature of science is given to graduate or undergraduate science students. This is a crime, in my opinion. How are we to expect the students we are training to become quality scientists without educating them on what science is, how it came to be, and what it can and cannot answer? This book does a fantastic job of summarizing everything that a scientist needs to be aware of when designing an experiment, but it does so while emphasizing the importance of thinking of science in the larger picture rather than simply trying to support or disprove a hypothesis.

Good for a rough read. But once you read it carefully, many flaws become obvious.
Good for a rough read. But once you read it carefully, many flaws become obvious: (1) Some terminologies are confusing, such as "question" in section 1 vs "framework" in section 3 which seem the same; "induction" vs "abduction" vs "deduction" in section 1 is also very confusing. (2) Typos in important places, such as "minimizing signal to noise ratio", where it should be "maximizing signal to noise ratio".

Interesting and Helpful Read
This book is great! In my college experience, explicit comprehensive instruction on experimental design was scarce. This book has been an excellent supplement as I prepare for going back to grad school again.
