Really an excellent choice with one request...
If you are looking for a well-sequenced, thorough practice book for brush pen lettering, this is the one. The book is filled with pages and pages for practicing basic strokes, connecting strokes, lower and upper alphas, and finally words., numbers, and symbols. After all, when it comes down to it, when you are trying to learn brush pen lettering, what is really needed is practice practice, practice... and that is the purpose of this workbook. I gave the book 5 stars because it is really deserving, but I would happily give it ten stars if it was sold as a spiral. I prefer to use tracing paper rather than use the workbook as a consumable. In the end, I tore the book apart and put the pages on disk rings. A tedious task to be sure, but in my opinion, the functionality of the book was improved significantly. By the, way, there is a companion book by the same author with a similar title... this review is about the “practice book.”

A +++ Highly recommend this working lettering book!
Anyone else going through an expensive wedding season decide it was a good idea to hand address invites?? I cant possibly be the only crazy person out there! Anyway, got this book to help with my lettering and this book was amazing! It reminds me of those books from elementary school where you practice tracing and that's how you learn to read and write - this book was similar! It made it So incredibly easy to learn how to do brush pen lettering! Which if you've tried, you known is not an easy task! This book made it so much easier to do. I wish I could find my befiore/after photo of my lettering -- i bet reviewers would get a kick out of it. I love the way the book is broken up into letters, words and style - all of these things are so important. I found it easier to learn when I praticed letters first. It makes sense to get comfortable with individual letters before you jump into a word. Highly recommend this book - i love that it's a working book. I especially appreciated the extra work sheets! What a treat!

Easy learning
This book makes it very easy to learn writing with the paint brush pens! Once you get the hang of it and keep practicing it’s fun to write all sorts of things! I even made my own calendar/planner with the months written in calligraphy.Just a beginner tip: use the hard tip brush pens to start learning. They are much easier to learn how to do the different pressures for different thicknesses of the letters. I have done art and drawing since I was a little girl and can have a very light hand if I need to and the hard tip pens were much easier than the soft ones to learn with.

Great practice book for brush lettering
This is a great practice book for brush pen lettering. I like the style presented, which looks very similar to calligraphy. This does not have other font styles for hand-lettering. The pages are perforated, so you can tear the pages out of the book and set them underneath tracing paper to practice over and over again, which is also helpful. The practice sheets include slanted lines if you (like me) have difficulty achieving the correct angle for your letters. My only complaints about this book are that I wish it was larger so that you get a full 8X10 page for practice, and I wish the book binding had pockets on the inside to store the pages once they are removed from the binding. I started with the practice book, but I think I will pick up the companion instruction book to go with.

Develop beautiful cursive handwriting learning from this book.
This is a great book for practicing cursive writing. The title is “Brush Pen Lettering”, but it reminds me of when I learned cursive writing in school. This book is perfect for elementary kids because cursive writing is not taught in schools anymore. Ergonomics, warm-ups, basic strokes, connecting basic strokes, upper and lower case alphabet, connecting letters, words, numbers and symbols and developing your style are the chapters in this book. The only tools needed are paper and various types of pens. Guides are printed on the paper to give the correct slant and positioning of each letter. Suggestions when using this book is to get tracing paper or make copies of practice pages. Once this skill is mastered by anyone, the usage is unlimited. Making signs, cards, painting posters, or just to have beautiful handwriting is the pay off.

Good practice for budding calligraphers
I'm a novice calligrapher, but this workbook has been an excellent resource for practice and growth. There are some great exercises and plenty of space to make mistakes — essential, as you will make many! You can watch yourself progress in the calligraphic arts until you are a master of strokes. The author supplies a list of favorite brush pens to get started with, and any will do the trick. With a variety of exercises, tips and tricks, and general guidelines to lead the way, this book will train your hand and eye to become a decent calligrapher in no time. From there, there’s nowhere to go but up.

The bk. is great!
I love the way they help you learn to use the brush pens & "draw" the letters. The Brush Lettering Bk. is a must have as a great companion instructional book. The only thing I'd ask is t hat it was spiral bound or much wider in case the beginner starts out practicing on tracing paper as the Bk. discusses. The "thin" bk. makes tracing over the lessons difficult. I still love it though.

Practice makes perfect!
I bought the practice book AND the Step-by-Step Workbook and I’m so glad that I bought BOTH. The Step-by-Step book contains a lot of important tips/info about technique and the Practice Book is perfect for applying that information. I also bought the Tombow three pack of brush pens and they are perfect for getting started!
