Good with limitations - will suit some but not all. Read on :)
It ''does what it states on the tin'' as the saying goes but it's not without it's faults?Firstly there is no way this would be any good for a 17" Laptop. A 15" fine but anything bigger would just overhang the pad plus the lead to power the single centrally located fan is located in not the best place or is not the longest and as such is just about reachable to the USB sockets found on the side of most laptops at their bottom most edge! Also the stupid round ball thing's on the cable do not help either but that's a minor niggle.Moving on but still sticking with the fan, who ever claimed it was quiet must have a slight hearing loss issue ... it's not overly loud, but in a quiet room with no background sounds such as a TV being on, it defiantly sounds like you have your own mini Harrier Jump Jet present .. so watch out if using in bed, late at night whilst others are sleeping ;)Regarding Air Movement of the fan ... it's good the top surface is slightly cupped so with a laptop on it, theirs a void between the two surfaces for air to circulate. This air is sucked in through the rear vent in the Pad and then blown up on to the underside of the laptop above ... not huge amounts but (so far) just enough to notice and I feel to make a difference.Fortunately my laptop has good non-slip pads on it's underside so it holds fast when on the pad, but some have bemoaned the fact there is no raised front lip to hold the laptop and stop it sliding forward ... as I say that's not been a problem for us but if it was I'm sure a thin strip of that anti-slip matting cut to size and placed between the two surfaces would easily hold it in place (?) ... but not a problem so far and I bought this for my better half who suffers with Restless Leg Syndrome [sporadic twitching of her legs, especially when lying in bed and even more so when using her laptop as well] and I must say (touch wood) ... this pad has helped a little plus the laptop has remained in place on top of the Pad without parting company once ... result.[Now just to find something suitable for my own 17" gaming laptop .. other than this annoying Ikea thing that simply digs into my legs and annoys the #ell out of me!!! Im a big FAN of this!
Quick run through of what makes this a brilliant device,+DURABILITY: I have had mine for well over a year now if not edging into a second. It's lasted in every aspect and I cant fault this laptop cooling plate even if I wanted to! Literally nothing comes to mind!+WHO MAY NEED THIS: I got this for my ultra book and it really was a lifesaver. The main flaw with my laptop was it would overheat and shut off to stop damage to internals, especially when charging or performing heavier tasks such as gaming. ABSOLUTE Nightmare!Luckily I picked this up and have used it ever since, rarely allows my laptop to get to the stage is has to go kamikaze on itself.+PRICING: very affordable compared to similar offerings and honestly well worth every penny if you have chronic heating issues with your laptop. You also have peace of mind behind the strong brand name of Belkin.+IDEAL USE: this is an excellent piece of kit for your laptop especially in use on your bed or lap (literally anywhere than isn't a flat solid table)+FUNCTIONING: Connects via standard USB port for power (draws it from the laptop) and utilises a single central fan with lots of ventilation to perform it's intended function by circulating air around the underside.+VERDICT+All in all a solid purchase of a superb and functional piece of tech!------------UPDATE------------Unfortunately I can no longer wholeheartedly praise this product, mine recently gave up on circulating cold air. Essentially the fan no longer spins and as a result defeats the intended purpose of this device. As stated Ive had mine well over 1 year probably near enough to 2 years, so I cant complain too much as it did last a fair amounmt of time and I didnt dump buckets of money on it either. Still disappointed...

Quiet & Light
*Update 11-SEP-2013*Having used this for a few months, the fans have started to make a loud annoying buzzing sound when turned on. I tried to open it up so I can check the fans out, but failed to open it so when it does buzz, I tend to bang it with my hand to make it stop.It was wonderful at first, but I wish they made it easier to open it so you can replace the fans if necessary and also clean out the accumulated dust!---------------------I bought this so that I can use my laptop (15.6" screen) in bed and not have its fan going into overdrive because of the heat being insulated by the mattress underneath it.The construction is sturdy and also very light as both the top and bottom have holes in it like a mesh. There are also intake vents at the back so even if the bottom of the cooling pad is blocked, it can still suck in cool air from the back. The front edge of the pad is rubberised with a small ledge so the laptop will not slip off the pad accidentally. The fans are powered via a USB cable which is normally tucked underneath the pad when not in use. There are grooves underneath the pad into which the cable can be pushed into and you can have the USB port sticking out on either side or the back of the pad depending on the position of the USB port on your laptop. The length of cable is more than adequate to reach the USB ports of a laptop. The two fans are very, very quiet and blow cool air upwards against the bottom of the laptop. They don't run very fast and so don't produce much noise (the noise of the laptop will mask the noise of the pad fans anyway), but the gentle stream of cool air blowing against the bottom of the laptop is enough to keep it nice and cool.Highly recommended for anyone looking for a decent cooling pad.
