A Desert Rat Rendezvous
I just read this book for the second time. I believe that I read it 30-35 years ago. Fortunately I remembered very little from the previous reading, which made this reading all the better. If I haven't read all of Wambaugh's books I know I've read all but one or two. I always find his books to be fascinating, entertaining and logical. He writes very complex characters and this book is no different. I like the fact that you can't predict where a character is going and that they often surprise you. Harry Bright also felt authentic ( due to Wambaugh's own background and exhaustive research). , which makes things all the more interesting. This a great summer book, although a good book, worth your time anytime.

Magnificent sad,sad tale
Joseph Wambaugh truly has the pulse of the policeexperience. The story was written with the usual oddCharacters..thus evoking lots of chuckles as one readson. The plot was bittersweet and terribly sad. A great read!

A so-so book
a little over done, and a little silly at times

Wambaugh at his best
This complicated humorous story that only a cop could write, but not just any cop, one who has seen it all, and can describe police work in the humorous gritty fashion that is Joseph Wambaugh. This is a masterpiece

Fine, fine author
Another excellent real-life cop tale as a pair of LA detectives hit Palm Springs for some extra-curricular investigations. Great characters and lots of them too. Such a fine, fine author, and thankfully many more books of his to read.

A long time favorite
This is one of the first Wambaugh books I ever read. An it's one of my favorite. The characters are very defined and the plot is excellent. Highly recommended.

Great read
Was a little confusing the beginning with all the characters. Then trying to figure out what happened. And when he does for his client the client goes into complete denial....

Disappointed
I used to read Wambaugh's books a d enjoy them. I hated this one. In fact, everything about it. The plot was at first interesting but was so sidetracked by ridiculous, unrelated characters and antics that the 4 or 5 days seemed like a month. The ending was not worth the reading time either. If this is what Wambaugh is writing now, count me out!

A muse read
Great. Laughed all the way through it. Good puzzler. Took me quite a while to catch on. I have read many of his novels and loved every one of them. His characters are something else. The author, Joseph Wambauch, has had me in fears, in tears and stitches.

Sad magic; as always.
Read it. Then read it again. It doesn't matter what genre you normally like; Wambaugh transcends genre with his ability to put you in his characters' hearts.
