I am still using the same equipment and even added an additional Amplifi HD router back into the setup a couple years ago and haven’t had any issues. My current setup consists of 2 Amplifi HD routers and 2 Amplifi Instant routers. So, as promised I am updating my review to 5 stars since I haven’t had any additional issues well past 2 years. My trust in this product has been restored.I have been using the Amplifi products for a couple years now and recently discovered the Instant when I started searching for a replacement router for my Amplifi HD router that died prematurely. I was hesitant to buy another Amplifi product because my HD router quit working shortly after the 12 month warranty expired and Amplifi was not willing to help me out in any way or even offer a discount on a new one. However, I decided to try this Instant router since it will work with my other Amplifi HD router, is a lot less expensive in case it too fails, and it too has the option of wired backhaul. I bought this router knowing it’s not as powerful as the HD, but was underwhelmed with the actual performance of it. Amplifi claims the Instant can cover 2,000 square feet, but 500 to 700 is more realistic. In reality, it covers about 1/3 of what the HD router will. Rather than exchanging the Instant for an HD, I purchased a 2nd Instant router to get the needed coverage. Since I can buy two of the Instant’s for not much more than the price of a HD, I figure I’ll be money ahead when another fails. I don’t trust the long term reliability with the Amplifi products and the short warranty doesn’t help with that. Also, I would not recommend buying either the Instant or HD as a kit. The mesh points on the bundled kits are hard coded to the router in the kit and will not be usable with any other router. For example, if your router fails, the mesh points become useless garbage. You would be better off buying additional routers since the routers can also act as a mesh point and do not become useless garbage if one fails. Currently I am running a Amplifi HD and 2 Amplifi Instant routers as mesh points with wired backhaul in a 3,000 square ft 2 story house and it provides sufficient WiFi coverage. Previously, I was using just 2 Amplifi HD routers with wired backhaul for sufficient coverage. One located upstairs at one end of the house and the other located at the opposite end of the downstairs. I will update this to 5 stars if the routers last beyond 2 years. Based on my previous experience and the experiences of others i have read about with the same issue, I am extremely hesitant to recommend this brand due to long term reliability, short warranty, and terrible customer service. If Amplifi offered at least a 2 year warranty like it’s lesser expensive competitors and cared about their reputation and repeat business, I would rate this product 5 stars. I would love for Amplifi to prove that they care about their customers and reach out to me, but I can guarantee that will never happen based on my experience so far. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Simple AND it works! Poorly documented wired backhaul works great! *by T***I on Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2019* My previous WiFi setup was a collection of MikroTik access points. I spent hours learning just to get them up to work at all and I was never really satisfied with their performance. One of those AP failed and I had had enough. I wanted something simpler to setup that would actually work. I had setup one of the AmpliFi HD systems for someone else previously and liked it, but the form factor of the mesh points and lack of wired backhaul capability made it not very good for my needs.Enter the Amplifi Instant. The secret to this product line is NEVER to buy the kit with the router and mesh point. For roughly the same price, you can buy two routers instead and get very useful wired backhaul capability along with other configuration flexibility and a display. The bundled mesh points are hard coded to the router and you cannot repurpose them or use them with a different router. With two routers, you can build a system that works like a more professional Unifi setup and that does not have this limitation.I have FiOS and use their router since it is basically required for the TV and other features to work unless you want to get into some complicated workarounds. I have the WiFi on the FiOS router turned off and one of the LAN ports goes to a switch that has all my network equipment plugged into it.I configured the Amplifi system by starting with one router with its WAN port connected to my switch. With the app, I was easily able to setup this first router and put it into bridge mode since I only wanted it to act as an access point. Then, I powered up the second router which was automatically detected and I used the app to change it to act as a mesh point. I flipped the setting for wired backhaul and moved it to a far away part of my house where I have ethernet run back to the switch and connected that to its WAN port. It came up in wired backhaul mode and happily connected through my switch. There is very poor wireless signal due to a lot of masonry walls beteween the location where the router and router turned mesh point are located so this works quite well. I also was able to use the LAN port on the router turned mesh point to connect a Roku device and that worked without any config.The wired backhaul and ability to loop through and connect a LAN device at the same time are two key features which are poorly documented but work great.The wifi signal from this setup has been worlds better than what I had with the mikrotik devices. Even at low signal strength (1-2 bars on connected devices) the signal is stable instead of randomly disconnecting. It even works outside for my WiFI surveillance camera and the PC in my detached garage. I'm very happy with it so far and it has been very stable. Plus, the setup could not have been any easier. It really does what it says and more. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to set up and good strong signal *by M***T on Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2020* I have had this little guy going for just about three days now. It is a wonderful improvement over the Xfinity branded Arris router I have been using for a number of years. It also has a stylish presentation that anyone could be comfortable with in most rooms. Nice aesthetic.The only shortcoming that I have been able to identify is a limited ability to custom configure it to meet your specific desires. Also, I had some trouble setting it up on my first pass. There was only one entry for the password and you are not given the option to display it (though I later found both of these). I must have gotten it wrong because I was unable to log in. Fortunately, they make the reset to factory relatively easy.I reached out to Ubiquity about the programming part and I see that I received a rapid response that I haven't had the chance to dig through yet.
