## Overview

Rutland Products Black Furnace Cement is a premium, pre-mixed silicate gel designed for high-temperature repairs up to 2000°F. Ideal for sealing and bonding metal and masonry joints, it offers smooth application, excellent coverage, and a proven 90-year track record trusted by professionals for stoves, fireplaces, and furnaces.

## Description

This has been the benchmark Furnace Cement for over 90 years. Rutland Furnace Cement is a pre-mixed silicate cement that withstands temperatures over 2000° Fahrenheit without failure. The smooth consistency feathers very thin to make metal-to-metal joints smoke and gas tight. For installation and service of furnaces and oil burners. Seals flues and coal or ash pit doors. Also for small woodstove repairs.

Review: Follow the directions - This is the product one needs to re-attach wood stove door gaskets and similar items. It works.
Review: Great for repairing cracked fireplace logs - I recently cleaned out my gas fireplace and discovered that one of the logs was cracked in several places and just about to break apart. After trying to research repair or replacement online I read that this stove caulk could be used to repair bricks and ceramic fireplace logs. The logs in my fireplace are not connected to the gas line but are for decoration only, so repairing them seemed like a safe option. After I got my caulk I took the log outside and placed in on newspaper anchored with stones, then squeezed out a few inches of caulk and rubbed it into the cracks on the log with gloved hands. The caulk didn't stick well to the porous ceramic of the log, so I rubbed it on generously, trying to force it into the cracks. Then I placed the log on a foil-lined baking sheet and put it in my oven and turned the temperature up to 500°. I let it bake at 500° for about 45 minutes and then turned off the oven and let it cool down naturally. A couple of hours later I took it out and it was nice and secure and no longer in danger of splitting apart. I suppose if I wanted to be really fancy I could buy some high-heat brown spray paint and paint over the black caulk, but it's not really that noticeable in the dark interior so I don't think I'll bother.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work for broken stove pipe flange on top of a cast iron box stove it was dropped in shipping and broke out the top flange the pipe attaches?**
A: No I think not , but if it’s just laying there in place and is cracked loose from the main flange .This would seal the crack but would add little support it’s to brittle.

**Q: Once i cut the tip end and start using it, how can i store it for later use? is that even possible? how different to other silicone caulking tubes?**
A: Once opened, you can seal the tip with plastic wrap to help extend the life for up to a couple of weeks - this is not a product that is designed to be held on to for a while after opening, it will begin to cure as soon as it is exposed to air.

**Q: What is the minimum application temperature? 30F?**
A: Yes, the application temperature is 30 degrees F up to 100 degrees F.

**Q: Can this be used to fill a crack in a Big Green Egg and if so would it stand up to the heat of the grill?**
A: We do not recommend using this product to repair a crack in a Big Green Egg as this is designed for metal-to-metal or metal-to-masonry applications. You can use Rutland Products Castable Refractory Cement to make repairs to the cracks, once allowed to dry for 24 hours, this Castable Refractory Cement can be exposed to temperatures up to 2,200-degrees F.

Good high temp cement, NOT adhesive, but fills in cracks on pipes and adapters
