14 Month Update: After 14 months of use every day at minimum of 3 time per day, in high winds, cold, hot, rain and snow. My gates are 8'6" long and weigh aprox 60 lbs they are aluminum. My biggest challenge was getting a wire under my 16' wide driveway.Before I purchased this I called and than emailed Topens a question on size wire required to run to the 2nd actuator. Phone support not really available, however I did get a response the following day. This satisfied my concern about being able to get support after the purchase and for the price i was okay with no live phone support.What I did want was after the sale support and email works for me.I also wanted to know I could get replacements parts if needed, this is also availableI also wanted to be able to return it if was not a quality product or too difficult to install.What I found was. Package was acceptable everything was packed tightly and nothing was broken.Instructions were very good in my opinion, for me very easy to follow both assembly and wiring very easy and clear.The biggest problem was deciding what batteries and box to house the batteries once I had that it was a piece of cake. Works great right now I will follow up in 6 months but at this point I don't see and potential issues. Important items if you done right you won't have any issues. 1. Make sure your not over the weight of length with your gates. 2. Make sure you install the operators level. 3. Get 2 12V 12AH connected in series and place them in a water tight box. 4. Installed this by myself. Was kind of a pain because the angle of my gate. Messed with the angles and now it works great. Everything worked straight out of the box. Highly recommend!!!

I never write a review but was so disappointed in this product I felt the need to convey my experience.I should have returned it when the directions were not in inches but in centimeters , not that you can’t convert but we don’t use that measurement system in the USA. I went ahead and installed anyway since I’m a tradesman and can figure that stuff out. All done and powered up one of the actuator arms was binding up, tried calling the 800 number and was busy……when finally answered was a recording with bad English.So for tech support you have to email….ok no big deal ……but the answer was for me to pull actuator apart do a series of tests and lubricate the part….. I just spent over 500 dollars on this……they wouldn’t just replace the actuator…….so I disassembled this and returned it , Amazon was great , this product was not anywhere near the asking price, will buy one locally instead. When you add up my time and all the stuff not included it is not worth the price especially in today’s economy!

We recently installed a gate and quickly grew tired of opening and closing it, so we started researching gate openers. I will have to admit that I bought this one based on the price and the fair reviews it has. We have a double gate and it is about 600 feet away from available electricity so we went with the Topens 5S solar model. Upon opening the box I could tell that the product was of decent quality. I ordered and installed the double gate opener, the included solar panels & charge controller, a wireless keypad and an exit wand, all Topens brand. All of what I received, save the solar panels and charge controller, look like decent quality items. Below are some notes I have to pass along about this system.The Bad:1. It does not come with any wires except those hanging out of the actuators. One could reasonably assume that the opener meant to go across the drive would come with 20 or 30 feet of wire so it could stretch across to the control box, but that is not the case. I ran a 1" PVC conduit (not in the pictures) and had to supply my own wire to power the second actuator.2. The solar set up seems cheap all around. As I mentioned before, there was no wire supplied to hook up the solar panels to the charge controller. The supplied bracket was perfect for the bottom 10W solar panel, but the top bracket didn't hold the top panel well so I built my own support for it. Also, you have to install the solar panels AFTER you mount the bracket which you need child size hands to do. They definitely need to re-engineer the solar mounting brackets.3. The whole control setup and batteries need to be in some kind of an enclosure, but none is provided. I am an electrician and happened to have an empty weatherproof panel can sitting around that worked nicely for it all, but the average person will need to find some kind of weatherproof housing for all these items.4. The control wiring requires several items to be connected to the #11 & #12 terminals and yet there is only one wire connection for each. It's a minor detail that I fixed with some short pieces of wire and wire nuts. Also, you're going to need a REALLY small flat head screwdriver to connect the wires. I think they're 1/32nd inch screw heads.5. Batteries are not included. It says this up front, so it was no surprise, but to complete the system you have to spend an extra $80-120.6. The gate doesn't have a built in stop if it hits something like a garage door does, so it keeps going even if something (like your car) is in the way. I can envision that maybe being an issue in the future and I think perhaps that is what the optional photo-eye is for, but I don't have one at this point.The Good:1. The actuators seem to be of decent quality that will last. They were pretty easy to install and I did it all alone, with no one's help. My gate is mounted on an old electric power pole so the supplied bolts were not long enough and I had to supply my own so I used 6 inch long 3/8" lag bolts. Adjusting the swing was fairly easy as the bracket has several screw openings to choose from and it rotates around about 160° or so.2. The instructions were pretty clear even though they were originally written in Chinese and then translated into English. All of the wiring diagrams were very simplistic and easy to follow (Remember that I am an electrician.)3. Programing the remotes was a breeze. Press one button on the controller, then press the button on the remote twice within 4 seconds and it's ready to go. We have 3 drivers going through the gates so we ordered extra remotes. The instructions say it can be programed for up to 10, which would include the wireless keypad that we installed. (9+1) All of them work from 50-60 feet.4. The batteries they recommend are 12V 12AH but I talked to someone at the battery store and got 12V 18AH so as to have more opens/closes available.5. Setting the limit switch that tells the gate where to stop is pretty easy to do, but the instructions aren't clear about how it works. It's located on the underside of the actuator and requires a Phillips screwdriver to adjust. I was able to play with it a little until I figured out where it needed to be.6. Everything worked for me the very first time I tried it. Nothing failed, nothing jammed. Making sure everything is plumb and level and the gate operating smoothly before installing the opener is key.All in all I'm very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it for anyone with a remote, light weight gate.Edit: It's 6 months later and this thing is still going strong. I was initially worried that the puny solar cells wouldn't keep up but I've had zero trouble. Of note: I went back and installed a photo-eye sensor which functioned, but would stop the gate from opening if you break the sensor as well as stop it from closing. The eye we bought was not a Topens product (because they didn't offer one) and rain would obscure the beam causing the gate to not open at all. I finally disabled the thing. In my opinion it should only work during closing, not opening. Other than that we're very happy with the quality and functionality of the gate.

Pretty straightforward on install. I had a problem with the arm base. Customer service was all over it and sent me the replacement part quick. Highly recommended.

No instructions or mounting hardware for solar panels, no instructions or I go in solar controller. Tech support is an off shore Amazon rep who doesn’t know about product!

For bang for your buck, this product is hard to beat! I entered into this purchase with eyes wide open. Pricing was significantly less than comparable options that I researched so I anticipated that there might be some hiccups, but I was sold by the positive reviews around Topens' customer service. The product was fairly easy to install, this from a man with very little experience with electrical work. It did have some issues initially that required some troubleshooting and extra parts (I wouldn't plan on the product necessarily working perfectly out of the box) but as advertised the customer service was great and Topens compensated me with extra remotes for my trouble. The opener is now working flawlessly and I'm well satisfied. Recommend.

So far very impressed with this product. It came all as advertised, well packaged and everything seems to be good quality. The instructions made installation and setup very easy. Some of the best instructions I have experienced when installing a new product for an application I hadn't done before. Worked as expected first time. Will report more after more uses. Super easy to install and hook upJust follow the instructionsBut they don’t give enough wireIt worked good about 20 times and now it stops where ever and the motors start fast and then start to labour going both ways, like there is no lube on mechanism inside.I’m in the process with the company to resolve the matterI will up dateJust very frustrating1 week later…..So far the company is super easy to deal with and very helpful. There is a control board update. The new board has be shipped .I will up date when the board shows upI got the new board in 2 days , which was awesome.I installed the new board. It was super easy to install just plug and play reallyThe new control board fixed a lot of little problems that I didn’t realize were there. Just because I never had a good one from the start.All the gate settings are way more accurate and the motors sound soooo much better now with the right amps going to them.Super frustrating to have any problems like this but to get something that they already know isn’t right even more so.Buuuut they are working great now, and the company was fantastic to deal with.Long and short of it I’m happy and I would recommend them to anyone

Instructions are poor at best !Please be prepared to go to your local hardware store and purchase 1.several wire connectors 2. 14 gauge wire. 3. A waterproof box or container to fit batteries 4.batteries (24 volt system so 2 batteries) 3. Several deck screws 4.conduit and loom for exposed wires and while you are there see if you can buy some extra sanity from your hardware provider. This will come in handy in the near future. Earlier when I said that the installation instructions were poor what I really meant was that they are missing vital key information about the dual gate opener which would have saved you some sanity . There are no (+ or - markings on any wires provided and they are all red and yellow and alternate functions when used with the solar functions.I wish I would have bought the mighty mule or ghost products. But I was trying to save a buck and ended up spending two.Don’t bother trying to call the customer service number provided on the control box it’s out of service.Only reachable by emailI will update if they suddenly reply
