The Book of Five Rings: Deluxe Slipcase Edition (Arcturus Silkbound Classics)

It'd be silly to critique the writings of a book from the mid-1600s, so I won't be doing that. Anyone who would want to can learn to be pseudo-critics elsewhere. What's important is this edition of the book, and how high quality it is. Firstly, the book comes in a slip case, and the case itself is made of extremely sturdy plastic that has high quality paper glued onto it that makes up the actual design. I could be wrong, but when it came in, little bits of paper on the side were semi-coming off, but nothing worth complaining about, and it doesn't take away any stars. It's barely noticeable, but it is worth mentioning. It's well made, the text and picture of Musashi is glossy, and it's all very nice. The actual book itself is even higher quality. It's wrapped in this extremely unique fabric that's in a diagonal pattern, and it's very nice to feel. The picture of Musashi on the front cover (that's the same one on the slip case), and the text on the front (which is just, "The BOOK OF THE FIVE RINGS; Miyamoto Musashi") both have gold layering which makes it quite glossy. But even the red fabric on the rest of the book is glossy as well, giving it a unique charm. It's simplistic too, with the back having no text, leaving you to appear intelligent for everyone wondering why you have a weird, no back-text, fabric book with Japanese art (the truth is that you just wanted to look cool). I obviously don't know Japanese, but I'm sure the translation's nice. The English is perfect and makes sense, not difficult to read at all. It's quite short as well, able to be read very comfortably within a week. There's lots of art scattered throughout the book (usually every other page) that is extremely high quality and nice looking at. Sometimes they relate with what the book is talking about, sometimes not, but it doesn't matter, you won't understand the high level spiritualism anyways. The paper has an almost plastic feel to it, due to it being extremely smooth and thick. It even makes a squeaky sound when you rub against it. And the plastic comparison is a positive thing, not to be taken negatively. It's extremely high quality and gives it a deluxe feel. Overall, very nice. I'm now able to achieve nirvana, kill people with swords, and boost my self-esteem with high quality binding, paper, and hard covers. 10/10, wouldn't buy again (I already have it, why buy it again).

Quality book, that looks very nice in hand or on the shelf. A great read, or a great gift. I've ordered more than one as gifts. Plus its a solid price for a classic piece of literature.

Wow! We are absolutely thrilled with this book. While the content is a classic, this particular clean-line version is a genuine showstopper. It makes a magnificent coffee table centerpiece and instantly elevates the look of the room. We honestly didn't expect such high quality given the price; it truly looks and feels far more expensive. If you're looking for a book to use as a display piece, this will not disappoint!

This book is what I categorize as "light reading" Nearly every page provided strategy for sword fighting. Strategy was described in both close - in and broad arena tactics. The way of the warrior is the philosophical foundation of all things, with respect to both combat and everyday life applications. I enjoyed reading this book as I did "The art of war"

I didn't check the reviews before buying this book, because all I wanted was a hardcover copy of The Book of Five Rings. I wasn't particular. So, when I received the book I was pleasantly surprised! It's a beautiful copy of Musashi's classic book. An absolute must-have for any student of history, Bushido and stoic philosophy. The illustrations are also amazing!

This is a must have for your home or office! Such a Beautiful looking book and the lessons in the book are foundational!

This is a really good presentation of the text. Can't comment on the translation, but seems well written as well. The book is of great quality and very pleasant to hold and read. Should make a great gift too.
