Fits perfectly in an All-Clad D5 3 quart saucepan. The D5 lid supplied with the 3 quart saucepan also fits perfectly on the steamer insert. Design, material and build quality are all superb. Lighter in weight than All-Clad pans designed to go directly on the stove because it’s an insert, not a pan. The pressed-out lip that allows the steamer to sit inside a pan is shaped such that it is fairly easy to clean. Hard to describe, but the lip is more open on the top and that makes it easier to clean. I agree with the reviewer here who highlighted that the number and size of the steam vent holes is correct to allow sufficient steam penetration without letting in too much moisture which would make vegetables, Dim Sum or other steamed items too soggy. To achieve that balance obviously required design study and correct engineering. All-Clad appears to have sweated the details on the design of its steamer insert just as it has on many of its other well-designed and well-regarded cooking items. More elegant, more effective and easier to use than those ubiquitous stainless folding basket steamer inserts. Extends the utility of one’s already-owned D3 or D5 3 or 4 quart saucepan. Inexpensive by All-Clad standards 😊. I disagree with reviewers who feel that All-Clad has compromised its standards by producing this item in China. The quality of the steamer insert compares to the quality of other All-Clad premium items without being OVER-built just to copy the pan build.

I usually only write reviews when the product is really really bad or really really good. This steamer goes in the really really good category. First of all, the construction of this steamer is at par with all of my other all-clads. It fits perfectly over my 3 qt stainless D3 pot as well as my 3 quart non-stick pot. The lids that came with my three qt pots, one is glass and the other stainless, again, fit perfectly over the steamer. The steam does not leak between the steamer and the pot, which was something I worried about. And the best part of this steamer is the number of holes! Its just right! my steamed vegetables turned out perfectly. My last vegetable steamer had way too many holes so my vegetables are always too wet and soggy. I thought that was normal until I tried this steamer tonight. Unbelievable! Its the best steamed vegetable I've ever had. I will give the benefit of the doubt to All-clad that they actually studied the correct amount of steam to penetrate through the steamer. I can't imagine its by accident because it really makes a difference. This steamer is a little on the pricey side but given that it comes with a lifetime warranty and makes great steamed vegetables, its worth every penny! Like the old saying goes, you buy quality, you only cry once.

Super high quality stainless steel (similar quality to D3 pots/pans). Fits our 3 quart (8 inch) All Clad D3 pot perfectly, the original pot lid also fits this steamer and provides a great seal. Used it to steam some baby broccoli and got a nice even steam. Because of the excellent fit, it is easy to store with the pot, steamer and lid stacked together. This is bar none my favorite steamer ever. At first I thought the price was a bit high ... until I felt and experienced the quality, a one time purchase and great investment.

Bought the All-Clad 4703-ST steamer and it fits good into my D5 3qt pot. The handle on the steamer is a little shorter than the D5 pot's handle, but I found this allows some room for me to grab the D5 pot handle if I need to move both pots. On steamers that have the same length handle as the pot I would have to offset the handles to get to the bottom pot's handle. Either way, long or short handle doesn't really matter to me as both work. One thing I didn't like was the D5 pot's lid does not fit flat over the top of the steamer. The lid is tapered so at least it still goes on, but it rest on the tapered edge of the lid and not on the flat lip of the lid. The lid still covers the pot fine, so it's still going to steam, but it would look nicer if the lid went all the way down so the lip of the lid rested on the lip of the steamer. Lastly, on my old steamer the holes covered the entire bottom, but on this one they don't. So some water can remain in the steamer until you tilt it to drain away from the edges. Except for the lid and hole issues, overall it's a nice steamer and will work fine.

Very well made product. I did feel a bit guilty for spending so much money on an item that isn’t used daily and a substitute is available for 1/10 as much. But I wanted it to join my collection of All-Clad cookware. I felt guilty about that too but I love it and use it every day.

Perfect fit for my 3-quart All-Clad sauce pan. Looks great hanging on my wall.
