Kid finger saver
Have a toy box that slams shut? These are perfect. Directions are too complex for me so I eyeballed the installation and it worked out perfect. I am pretty sure I have saved some kid fingers with this item.

Good for limited uses but not at all dependable.
I have two chests that I wanted to make slow-close lids. The first is a large, heavy lid. After realizing that the instructions were not accurate due to it using normal hinges instead of the type they assume, I was able to get it installed and mostly working. It will stay open and start closing slowly but quickly speeds up and still slams (despite me having it extra tight). The second chest I had to go through some modifications to even fit the hinge. Once I did, the first try closing it and the hardware holding the top bent and broke despite this lid being MUCH lighter then the first! The hinge is now completely useless and I don't really trust it working with just one hinge. Overall, you get what you pay for. The first chest I did works but it still will not save any kids fingers once it starts closing. The second was just a complete and utter failure! Move on - find something else!

Great quality
Have grandchildren and the large toy box has a lid the Louis X14 could use as a guillotine. Was very concerned the kids would chop off a finger or more when lifting so ordered these. Only needed one - holds the lid in place absolutely. Highly recommended.

Good for toy box
We ordered these for a toy box for our toddler. The wood box is very heavy and these hinges can really hold up the lid so it will not smash his fingers. We used both of them on either side just to be sure. They do a great job! I took off 1 star because the instructions and install were confusing and time consuming. We had to reposition a couple of times to make sure it would close properly. Also you can adjust the torque and I find with frequent lifting, we have to tighten to make sure it doesn't drop too fast. Delivery was on time.

Seem pretty high quality but very finicky to install
Finally installed these. The instructions were less than useful. Even worse than most non-IKEA instructions you find out here. I managed to finagle them into place but left a bunch of extra holes that I now need to fill. The top bracket first got in the way of the lid closing since there’s no clear instruction for clearance horizontally on the lid (see pic). Then when installing the other stay on the opposite side, being even a quarter inch or less on the position of one screw made it so the stay hinge wouldn’t go beneath the lid (see pic with multiple holes drilled)! Super finicky! I probably went a little overboard drilling pilot holes for the small screws but still took a bit more work than anticipated. Install aside the quality seems pretty high. I disassembled one during install and most of the parts are metal. The small slider that allows you to reverse the open direction seems like the most flimsy part I’d worry about. It was especially confusing that the hardware for attaching the stay to the bracket was completely different from that in the Amazon posting without clear instructions (see photo: it goes screw, washer, stay, washer, bracket). If you don’t mind tinkering about these could work for you, especially if you only need to install one. Just be prepared for some headaches. At this cost though I can live with it.

Worked Fine For Me
I'm surprised by the comments. I agree the directions are garbage, but the install to me was self explanatory. I could see it being a challenge for someone not mechanically inclined. I made a 2'x4' pine chest and one of these was more than adequate to hold the lid up, see my attached photo. I think the quality matches the price point. If needing something that's going to take a little abuse, like a toy box, these might not work for you, but I think they more than make the grade in most applications.

Must be installed precisely
All measurements are in decimal feet. Most people don’t have a decimal feet ruler. Bolts on arms can easily be stripped. Poor metal quality. Must have one vertical surface and one horizontal surface to install. No provision for two vertical surfaces if box has recessed lid. 1/2” screws to fasten arms to box can easily be ripped out if not installed very carefully. One hinge broke after opening and closing the box about a dozen times. the screw thread pulled out of the plate holding it to the box. Wouldn't buy again.

First Rate Service
I originally purchased the 40lb version of these hinges and had difficulty getting them to work. I contacted Ruyufe and fortunately got Amy. She was extremely patient, and supportive and worked with me till the problem was resolved. Service like that is usually the exception and not the rule. Thanks Amy
