Everything quality wise is outstanding on his book.I am an art student in SoCal, I'm finishing my bachelors this year. I am the type of person who researches EVERYTHING before buying something, but in the case of this particular book I was ordered by my mom that found it while she was browsing the internet and basically told me to buy it. I have on the conservative side about 1500$+ worth of book about art in my library. So to say the least I was hesitant on the usefulness of this book, but I was particularly surprised by it. The book is basically a bible of drawing. It has everything from perspective to figure drawing and everything in between. It's the perfect book to get started on drawing and is sort of a jack of all trades. From experience, it doesn't matter which branch of fine art you devote yourself to the value of being able to draw with adequate proficiency is invaluable. And this book is perfect from the beginner to learn basic skills.All illustration are drawn, which I personally feel its fantastic. And the accuracy and style of the drawings are very well done.I would blindly recommend it to any beginner or amateur artist trying to establish his drawing skills. And bang for buck, this book kills ANY other beginner book, with 400+ pages. I could even compare it to several drawing academic book that I had to buy for school that were 150$+ and quite frankly doesn't achieve the level of explanation nor quality this sub 30$ book has.The only thing I could see being a little bit of a draw back is if you want to carry it around, it's a HEAVY book. But I'm not planing on it going anywhere out side my house so that is not a problem for me, much less reason enough to reduce a star on the rating of this marvelous book.Hope I have convinced you and I assure you that is 10 more valuable resource that any of the top rated beginner drawing book here in amazon.If you buy it I hope you find it as helpful and well done as I did. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful resource on fundamentals *by F***Z on Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2012* I'm cautious about ordering a book without a "look inside", but Karter's enthusiastic and credible review encouraged me to take a chance. The book arrived today, and I'm almost bewildered at how I was able to get a book like this for less than $20. Physically it's a handsome, printed-cloth-bound volume (which is an unusual feature these days) complete with a jacket. Inside, on nice quality matte paper, hundreds of black and white drawings, many of them step-by-step, showing how to draw humans, animals, architecture, landscapes, and still-life objects, beginning with lines, geometric shapes and forms, and demonstrating how to render these accurately. Illustrations demonstrate how light and shadow on basic geometric objects inform the lighting of more complex forms. Szunyoghy includes many rules of thumb for proper proportion, measuring, and angle estimation.I like the fact that he hasn't gone overboard with his example drawings. They're simple enough to allow the grids and reference lines to be dominant. Basic principles are not overwhelmed by artistic showmanship. One helpful feature for the novice is the inclusion of examples of what NOT to do, and why not to do it. For instance, "If you are drawing a profile, you should always work out how large the eye would be were it seen face on. The eye in this drawing would be too wide."Most exercises in the book use a grid; and for good measure, a transparent grid and value chart are included in a back cover pocket. My only complaint is the thin typeface, which is hard to read. A pity, as the text is well worth reading.Thanks, Karter, for taking the time to review this book. I'm very happy to have it.UPDATE: Having had time to peruse and use the book for a few weeks, I have to add that the life drawing section is very good when it comes to the female form, but has scarcely anything on the male form.
