Pretty, inexpensive, bowls
These bowls are a nice size for my kids to have a cup of cereal in the morning. Bowls don't last long in my house as they are constantly chipped or broken, so the price was a plus as well. I prefer not to buy dishes, or anything else I am going to eat out of, from China because of safety issues and recalls but I have not read about those problems from Japan, where these bowls were made. Too bad there are not matching plates because I would buy those too. It is not obvious from the picture but the outside if the bowl has more of a matte finish than the inside. I think it looks nice, but some people may not like that.

sturdy elegant little bowls
These bowls came well protected in a cheap cardboard box. The glaze is hard, satiny and smooth. The color is kind of a washed out robin's egg blue--more than green. My bowls were pretty much the same color as my computer monitor showed. They are quite elegant for everyday use. The size is smallish but holds one cup (8 oz) easily. The ceramic rim on the bottom is not rough and scratchy. The rims are thick enough to be sturdy but not fat and bulky. I liked them.

Perfectly imperfect.
I am happy to find these to add to my growing set. I find that this particular design is not easy to find online and only available at small non-descript retail store. I did notice some of the painting has some faint browning towards the rim. This makes sense since each are hand crafted and painted. The design is still beautiful and appreciate that each has its own "personality".

pretty food bowls.
Pretty and delicate. I got them to give as a gift. They are pretty, but most have flaws in the glaze and appear to be seconds. The person who received them likes them a lot! They are big for rice bowls. OK for soup, cereal, salad, and rice. They came in a nice box which made it nice for giving as a gift with only a pretty bow.

Very pleased with purchase!!
I just received my order of these rice bowls, and I'm very pleased with them ... they are beautiful!! They arrived in a very sturdy box, which was then packed in a shipping box padded with bubble wrap. They are just what I was hoping they would be, and I'm sure that I'll enjoy using them very much. The design is wonderful ... and more beautiful once you get them in hand than it shows on the webpage (at least I think so!!). I just got back from a trip to Japan and had wanted to bring back some for myself; but everything I found that I liked was way too expensive for my budget. The price for these bowls are well within my budget. I would recommend these bowls to anyone.

Lovely bowls, but broken during shipping.
The bowls are lovely, but one of the bowls arrived broken.

Not good for long term daily use. 5 year review
5 year review - changed review from a 5 start to 3 star. First, I purchased 3 sets (12 bowls) and after about 4 years only 2 were still not chipped. These are washed by hand, so just the impact of spoons or stacking seems to have chipped all these. As I have other fired bowls have have no chipping, I assume the design of this bowl is the problem. Second, after I purchased my third set, to replaced chipped bowls, the bowls came in significantly smaller. Perhaps this is just quality control, or they are trying to cut costs.Just adding my review to the history to help the score of a good product. Used for 6+ months so far. No breakage or chipping problems.

Excellent Japanese bowls
These are lovely bowls. They are just right sized--not too big, not too little. I chose them because they are lovely, actually made in Japan (like the US, a country with a seriously diminished manufacturing sector), and harmonized with my dinnerware, which has huge cereal/soup bowls. Whatever happened to the right size it movement? I just ordered a second set of these--that is how much I like them!
