How loud is this machine when it is running? If you sit next to the machine and call a friend, is the machine loud enough for your friend to hear it?

It is not loud at all. When the coffee is ready, you hear a beep for two seconds. That's all. The coffee is ready less than a minute anyway. It's a lovely machine. The taste is wonderful.

Do you add the sugar before brewing the coffee?

Yes, you need to add the sugar before you start the brewing process. I recommend cane sugar, other options such as splenda, truvia etc. might change the coffee taste.

I received " BEKO " on 9 July, used it ~ 10-times : Today-I noticed a Crack-like Line--running from top-to-bottom on the Outer wall of the RESERVOIR ~~ opposite the Handle : is it O'kay//normal-? some kind of welding-? I did Not notice it earlier. Never dropped or Misused the Reservoir Leon K., Toronto

If what you should see is a vertical line directly in front of the pot and the same on the back behind the handle. This is normal. It should not be open but a tightly sealed line. It's where the outer material of the reservoir cup joins together. If the 'crack' is open or wide enough to put your finger nail into, return it.
