Amazing Sound!
I've had a handful of soundbars in my time but never one like this! The first thing that hit me when opening the ST5000 was how heavy it is! Not just the subwoofer but the soundbar itself. I had to order some brackets to mount it under my TV as it was too heavy for my existing mount. Just an FYI for those potential buys. This is a really beautiful soundbar. The grill for the front is magnetic so it's super easy to put it on or take it off. It really looks great either way. I kind of like it better without. The suboofer is massive and very heavy. It look sgreat with a shiny top and mesh grill on the front. Apart from that there's just an hdmi cable, manuals, and remote in the box. Pretty simple stuff. Upon first hooking it up I had no sound. A quick reboot fixed that as I had missed the initial setup. It has 3 HDMI inputs with ARC support. It supports 4k HDR so I have my Xbox One X and PS4 Pro connected directly to the soundbar. It also has bluetooth and Chromecast support for wireless connectivity and even has Spotify built right in. Super easy to get your media to this guy. I've had Atmos support for years through my TV & Xbox but never had the chance to experience it and man was I missing out! I downloaded the Dolby Access app and watched a few demo videos and was blown away. It really feels like you are enveloped in sound. I have a pretty nice Samsung soundbar in my living room and this thing really blows it out of the water. Music sounds amazing through the ST5000 as well. The sub is really powerful and really fills the room. I listened to a variety of tracks and all sounded amazing. If I have one nitpick it's that the UI can be a little sluggish. It makes it a little slower to switch inputs than I'd like but ultimately it's a soundbar and I'm not using the UI much. It's a pretty minor thing. Overall I'm super happy with this soundbar. It's a phenomenal upgrade over what I had previously and I can't wait to watch more movies! Edit -- After about a month and a half had some issues. After some troubleshooting turns out it was interference caused by my wifi. I guess after a reboot my router changed channels and it caused the interference in both my wireless subwoofer and my internet. After adjusting the settings on my soundbar (2 actually!) and my wifi it seems all is well again. Glad to have that one sorted!

Crank Up The Volume
As soon as you unpack the box you know the Sony Sound Bar just screams quality. The sleek design will make a great addition to your home theater. The soundbar is quite heavy, about twenty pounds for the bar alone. The subwoofer adds another 30 pounds to the system. You have 3 HDMI Inputs with a HDMI(Arc) option on the back. The sound bar comes with a magnetic grill, which can be on or off, either way the sound bar looks fantastic. The set up was quick and easy. It practically set itself up. A minute or two to set up Wi-Fi, a few more minutes to do the obligatory software update and you are on your way. Full disclosure, I am not a sound connoisseur by any means. My review is not scientific; it is not being dissected by an engineer. I am an average guy who enjoys the movie theater experience. I am not sitting in a home theater, just a regular โfamily/living roomโ. My setup is simple, a Sony 55โ Brava and a TiVo Roamio for this review. The soundbar has all the features I want and a whole bunch of features that I do not know that I really want. To begin the sound is crisp and clear, you can feel the sound. You will notice how the soundbar by far exceeds your built-in speakers from the TV. The immersive sound makes this well worth the soundbar upgrade. A virtual surround soundbar that combines digital signal processing and S-Force Pro Front Surround to deliver amazing sound. The Dolby Atoms delivers a 360-degree surround sound. The dedicated music service button allows me to pick up exactly where I left off, so, I never miss a beat. The NFC one touch connection allows me to stream instantly from my smartphone. Connects to the internet with the built in Wi-fi. The soundbar has 9- coaxial speakers built into the soundbar. The different built in sound settings give a good mixture for movies, music, sports, gaming and standard. Playing with them gives a nice variety of adjustments. Then hit the 3D Sound setting and put your seatbelt on. The manual is quite thick and will join a lot of other stereo manuals in a drawer somewhere. The remote has plenty of buttons that I will probably never intentionally touch. I want this set up perfectly the first time and hopefully never touch the remote again. I tuned in to some music from my cable company package, the sound was, to my ears, quite good at high and low volume. Switching to a broadcast HD movie and the subwoofer came alive!! Thor never sounded so good. I was sitting @ 10 feet away, ears slightly above the soundbar and I felt sound all around me, literally bouncing off me! WOW! Bluetooth (LDAC), sounds a lot better than any Bluetooth speaker I have heard before, big fancy names included. I Have seen some reports about crackling from the subwoofer, nothing problems here. No drop offs either. Most problems I assume are from people who do not look at the manual AT ALL. I have not investigated rear speakers, but so far, I did see no reason for them (yet anyway). Bottom line, love it, great sound, excellent stereo (after all this is what it actually is). Will probably learn more about it over time, but for now I want to finish watching Thor save the world.

Hook up to my TV and sources was easy, but the sub-woofer disconnected daily for the first ...
Updated 4/18/18... Changed from 2-Stars to 1-Star After sending the sound bar to United Radio twice for repair, it came back the second time with the Audio Return Channel (ARC) no longer working, a problem I never had previously. After days of troubleshooting and trying all the tips online to fix this, I had sound for about 8 hours and then gone again. Now I've spent another 45 minutes on the phone with Sony and was told I'd receive a return call within 24 hours. This speaker is just not worth the hassles to keep it operating. Updated 3/4/18... Changed from 4-Stars to 2-Stars. I've had problems with this since day 1. It took me quite a while to ensure that it was the soundbar causing my problems since I bought a new Sony TV soon after buying this. My problems were all related to switching inputs and HDCP problems. I have three devices that support 4K video, two of them also support HDR. I also have lots of HDMI 2.0 rated cables and have tried all different ones. After multiple phone calls to Sony, whose support, I think, really tried their best, they blamed my problems on my Tivo Bolt, saying that I needed a Non-CEC adapter for it so it wouldn't interfere with proper HDMI switching. Leaving the Tivo unplugged for a week, and just using my Roku and Android TV box, the video would still flicker on and off 5 or 6 times before locking in - IF it ever locked in and displayed. When I removed the soundbar from my system and plugged in my three devices directly into my SONY XBR-75X900E, and used it to switch, all of the flickering and video display delays were gone. When I switched an input, the new device displayed quickly. Following Sony's instructions, the soundbar was sent to United Radio for repair. They swapped the main board and returned it in less than 2 weeks (including shipping time). After plugging it back in and using it to switch my devices again, it wasn't as quick as going to the TV directly, but the switching worked with just a little initial flickering. A week later, I had to unplug the soundbar to reset it. A week later, I had to unplug it 3 or 4 times. Now, I intermittently have no sound from my Roku Premier + box (it of course works perfectly when plugged into the TV). Unplugging and rebooting the Roku does not fix the problem; unplugging the soundbar does. I can't use a soundbar that has to be unplugged every few days. I've contacted Amazon, they've contacted the seller of my soundbar, and now I'm waiting to hear from them to see what they'll do. If they can't help, I guess I'll be spending a lot of time on the phone contacting Sony. Original Review: Hook up to my TV and sources was easy, but the sub-woofer disconnected daily for the first few days until I changed the RF Channel setting from AUTO to 1. Once this change was made, the system has been stable. Getting used to a soundbar after coming from a true 7.1 system is difficult, but the HT-ST5000 is very pleasing and natural sounding and plays at sufficient volume. The surround sound simulation is OK, but won't truly fool you into thinking there are speakers surrounding you. I have not tested with Dolby Atmos or a 4K TV, but chose this model to have these features for the future. If you don't have any place for surround speakers, or are trying to reduce wiring, this soundbar is a great choice. The price is a little high, but considering it replaces your pre-amp and amplifier (or receiver) in addition to your speakers, it's not a bad deal.

Thanksgiving can't be made in a microwave
I'm slightly conflicted with this product, as it's sound output is superb and feature list is top notch, but this unit has quite a lofty set of expectations to achieve, as this is no "normal" soundbar. This is a "home theater soundbar", with full Dolby Atmos support, 800 watts of table rumbling, ear splitting power, amazing aesthetics that would compliment any high end entertainment setup......but also with the eye-watering tag to go along, which is where the conflict lies. Sony makes excellent products, as my entire entertainment setup - TV, Blu Ray player, game console and now soundbar - wear the Sony badge, but with all products, there's a golden ratio between performance and value, and some hit the mark better than others. I feel this one is close, but not quite there. The sound is amazing; it's wide, tall and full with very powerful bass, depending on the mode selected, but regardless of the flashy software names and acronyms, it simply cannot accurately reproduce 2 actual rear channels, and thus the surround effect is mostly underwhelming. The volume is excellent, and never requires maxing the unit for immersion, but for the claim of 3D surround is mainly a large wall of sound, which in and of itself is very impressive, but not quite to the level the hype would lead one to believe, and that's where this becomes tough when other alternatives come into play, even from the same company. Sony offers a host of home theater speakers that can be purchased separately to essentially build your own home theater sound, and for roughly the same, you could have a receiver, 2 fronts, a dedicated center channel, 2 wall mounted atmos units, 2 rear satellites and a sub, so this makes this a much tougher sell in those sorts of scenarios. I would recommend this unit if you want an extremely easy to setup, flexible and relatively self contained system to give you truly excellent and amazing depth of sound, add great looks to your entertainment setup that people will point out and remark about, but falls just short of a true theater experience. I think with the option of rear add ons like Sony's own HT-Z9F would go an extreme distance in rounding out the sound, but as it stands, we have to review based on what we receive in the box; not what would've been nice. If you can get one on discount like on Amazon or somewhere else, you are really short on space and simply must have the best in soundbar technology at the moment, go for it, but if you're looking for a true 7.1 experience and don't mind the fuss of setting up all the parts needed to make that happen, I would look elsewhere.

Soundbar that provides complete home theater feel
Had been using Sony HT-ST5000 for for few weeks now, and can't say how amazing the sound is. To start of with, didnt expect that it would be that heavy to lift it, so had to be lifted by two people. Just the soundbar was about 20lb and total was little over 60lb. The design of the soundbar was sleek with glossy finish and the front grill for speakers can be removed and fixed with ease. The soundbar has 9-coaxial speakers inbuilt into the soundbar, and it does provide complete immersion of Dolby Atmos 3D sound. This was connected to a TV which has Video Upscaling, and since the soundbar has Audio upscaling, while playing 4k videos, the sound is amazing as the picture. The soundbar has some new features that I haven't seen before, one of them is the NFC feature, which allows direct music playback by a single tap on the right side of the speaker(while facing it). Since the soundbar was a bit heavy and also bigger in size, had to get a custom wall mount plate that can hold upto 25lb to mount the soundbar to wall as the TV is placed on fireplace. The Front Surround technology can be easily noticed while playing any video. The soundbar has enough ports(3 HDMI In,, 1 HDMI Out, Optical and Analog) almond with NFC connectivity, bluetooth, USB and chromecast Playback. Setup of the Soundbar to TV/wifi was tricky as setup failed multiple times as the setup would just get stuck and the soundbar had to be unplugged and plugged back in and setup restarted, but once setup, tv remote was able to control options on soundbar, to either change input or to adjust sound settings. Cool feature was the NDC connectify, just tapping phone, was able to connect phone to soundbar, to start playback, on soundbar. The Music Service playback button helps with spotify playback with just click of a button. Tapping the button, the music was resumed from last playback on any other device. Also having Chromecast option helps quickly cast audio to the soundbar. All in all, the best soundbar that I had used, and since puppy likes to sleep while listening to music, puppy approves the soundbar as well Pros: 3d Dolby Atmos with full immersion Audio Upscaling Dedicated Music Service button NFC, USB and wireless playback Puppy approved(puppy can't sleep without music and the soft vibrations from the sub-woofer) Cons: Setup tricky and failed multiple times Doesnt go to standby when audio input switched on TV

Excellent bass, almost perfect sound
This soundbar produces some amazing sound. The install was quick and easy to complete. Simply, connect the HDMI into the ARC input and you're ready to go. I was very much surprised by the power of the subwoofer. Many times I could feel the vibration from the subwoofer going through the floor. This brings a lot of movies to life when watching. The controls are easy to use especially with the remote. Music sounds great as well when connected through Bluetooth. The sound from the soundbar itself was great but not always perfect. There were a quite a few times I had to keep adjusting it while watching programs because the voices would become too low to hear compared to the other sounds. However, when I did get it right, I was impressed with the quality. The manual suggested using Clear Audio+, the voice button on the remote and Night mode. These settings help make vocals more clear when watching different programs. I would strongly recommend using them. It made quite a difference for me. This improved the sound on all the things I watched as well as gaming. The soundbar is pretty big but doesn't obstruct the view of my television. Mounting it might be a great option for some though. Google home compatibility is here and well as works seamlessly. Overall, I love the quality of sound I get from this soundbar and would recommend it for those who have the budget.

Sound that makes a difference
In our family, TV is a way of life. My husband and I have always enjoyed our movie nights and we still do, only now the content is a bit different since adding our daughter to the family. I've always been that person who didn't really care about the quality of sound as long as I could hear, but that opinion has definitely changed since our purchase of the Sony ST5000 sound bar. I can honestly say that I immediately noticed the difference between the volume delivered by our decade old TV and that delivered by the Sony ST5000. Pros - Installation was simple and straight forward. - Quality of product is great and sound quality is excellent - You can really feel the bass from the subwoofer (funny note on that is our dog did not know what to think at first and he barked at the TV during the times that the bass came through). - My funny story leads in to the next pro of being able to separately adjust the subwoofer versus the volume from the remote control. - The sound actually fills the room and we have an open concept house and a vaulted ceiling. - Bluetooth is also really easy to pair. Cons - The only real con that we see is that there are only three HDMI ports and we could use at least one more. - It's too big for our current entertainment center (this is personal to me, but only barely and we are in the market for a new entertainment center anyway). All in all, my family is very happy with our purchase and we would recommend the Sony ST5000 to anyone we know if the market for a sound bar.

Great Sound, But Unstable Product Not Ready for Prime Time
I just returned this soundbar. First of all, it is a great sounding product and it supports both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The height effect was very good and it was able to reflect sound off my cathedral ceiling. So why did I return it? It is very buggy. In the 2 weeks I owned it, I had to hard reboot it at least 4 or 5 times. There is either a manufacturing defect and/or buggy firmware. Basically, the display button stops working and then the unit also becomes sluggish and you can no longer go into certain settings and it doesn't switch between inputs smoothly, requiring multiple attempts. It received a new firmware while I owned it, but it did nothing to address these issues. The only way to get it working normally was to perform a hard reboot. That erased all the settings, so I would have to go back in and set it up again (things like speaker distances, input labels, etc). Also, one thing that bothered me was that the the unit had an auto-off/standy that took effect 1 hour after no use was detected. The problem is didn't work when bluetooth streaming music. I use the soundbar to play music at night to help me sleep. My previous Sony soundbar actually had a sleep setting and would turn off after a specified time. I was hoping this auto-off/standy setting would turn it off after my phone stopped streaming music, but it remained on, consuming electricity unnecessarily. Sony has a great product hear, but it simply isn't ready for prime time. If you check various AV/AVSForums you will read about a number of users who have had to return this unit to sony to be repaired, but even after the repair, the problems persisted. I decided not to deal with this hassle and instead returned it back to the seller. Amazon made this process so easy and painless! Kudos to Amazon for having such great customer service.

Dramatically improves sound
I bought this Sony's HT-ST5000 7.1.2ch Dolby Atmos 4K Wireless Soundbar Home Theatre System after reading its review on whathifi.com. And I am not disappointed. My main purpose of this purchase was to improve my plasma TV's sound and also to listen to Dolby Atmos sound processing. The setup was easy. I have connected my Tatasky HD box, Amazon's Firestick and Bluray player directly to this soundbar. Overall sound reproduction and integration of bass is excellent. The dialogues are fairly clear. The sound output is huge and powerful enough to fill big rooms (25 x 20 feet). The Bluetooth connectivity is very good. All the features provided are working perfectly. On the downside, the mid range frequencies could had been more subtle and clearer. This becomes more evident when I compare this soundbar's output with my existing HT system consisting of separates (Pioneer AVR and MA's 7.1 speaker package). For casual listening, this is a super and future proof product.

it's a wonderful product, highly recommend it.
I am very happy with this sound system. It gives an excellent surround sound effects. Movies is so much more fun with this sound system, it's gives a cinema like sound effects. Sometimes I feel sound is coming from the back and from sides. Highly recommend it. Bit pricey but worth it.

This is a full blown audio/video receiver as well as an incredible sound bar!
Awesome sound bar. I didnโt realize when I bought, that it was also a full central audio/video control receiver. It can handle anything you plug into it. I would have bought a cheaper TV had I known this.
