A great first look at the world of the abyss
Arrived in excellent condition. A fascinating yet easy read. This is a good introduction to deep sea ecology, including some profile chapters and sections detailing specific groups of animals like sharks, and stories of deep sea exploration in the modern era. A must-read for a deep-sea-exploration enthusiast or the budding marine biologist.

Arrived quickly and carefully packaged
Always appreciated when the seller takes care in packaging to help the book arrive in "as described condition". This book is a great addition to my library of 160 books on the ocean which I use as reference material for my artwork.

Informative
This is a nice book on deep sea creatures. Nice photos of them. The author talked a lot about his personal explorations of the deep sea. I would prefer just to learn about these creatures in more detail and even more photos but it is still a good book to read.

I love the way this book doesn’t dumb down the science ...
I love the way this book doesn’t dumb down the science or the importance of issues facing our oceans, but the real stars are the creatures and their homes. The incredible illustrations testifying to the exquisite variety of ocean life are reason enough to buy it. Organizing sea life by strata also works well. Mr. Hoyt has the ability to convey a sense of habitat and place in the watery world.

If there's a better book on deep sea life, I haven't found it
I bought this for my 6 year old nephew who is currently obsessed with the deep sea and its bizarre denizens. It's by far the best book I could find on the subject and I was absolutely not disappointed. In fact I ended up looking through the entire thing myself before it got wrapped and getting quite absorbed. The photography is really stunning. There is a fair bit of text as well, which is clearly intended for adults, but the writing is quite small and is completely dominated by the pictures, making this perfectly OK for kids (well unless you're Ned Flanders or the Iranian state censor, in which case dry scientific descriptions of sea creatures exchanging eggs might be too much for you...) Highly recommended.
