For those of you who suffer from this, you will have probably spent years using many methods to heal the soft tissue, dealing with chronic problems when trying to walk, let alone run. Sitting for any length of time (or sleeping), meant stumbling around when you arose. I have tried many methods over the years to help my ankles to be as functional as possible. I do not think the condition will ever completely be gone, but it can be workable. The lumps on the back of both ankles are still there, but smaller and they have more blood flow. I am now able to play many sports that I haven't been able to do for several years. One of the methods that is critical to helping the ankles be stronger is the use of some sort of night splint to keep the insertional point of the tendon be stretched while sleeping. I tried 5 different splints, including the cumbersome ones from the hospital. I found that the Flexibrace Night Splint was by far the best for me. I wear a size ten women's shoe, but prefer the small size Flexibrace. It doesn't go up so far on my calf as to be uncomfortable when sleeping, and my toes just reach the end of it which is better than having the brace too long at the toe. Also, it doesn't get my feet hot, and the Velcro works better on this type of fabric over the long term than on other types of splints. I have been using the same pair of splints for 2 years. I use a lint tape roller every now and then to keep the Velcro fresh. Also, none of the splint brands flex my feet enough, so I rubberband some thick folded socks to the end of the brace to increase the backwards flex of the pad of my feet. You just have to see what works for you. For anyone interested, the other method that is critical is eccentric exercises. Initially: 1.My ankles were so bad that I could barely do any of the eccentric exercises. I kept at it and persevered over time. Later, I was able to add more stretching exercises. 2. The physical therapy technique known as Astym (it's known by several other names too) was very helpful to stimulate blood flow to start the healing process. 3. For six months, my doctor used nitroglycerin patches on the point of insertion of the tendon to my ankles.During the entire initial process, I always wore night splints, and will do so for the rest of my life. Without them, I could barely walk in the morning. Hope this message helps anyone dealing with insertional tendon issues. I am still surprised that I finally have a grip on the problem, but it took many methods. Ships fast ### ⭐⭐⭐ Boot okay, shipping via Amazon Prime sucked eggs *by L***X on April 11, 2015* In reality I would give the brace 4 stars and the shipping 1 star. The brace is exactly what it looks like, and is nice and soft. That isn't the brace I needed though...Right now, I am suffering from "clutch foot." I have a standard transmission, and my new job has me doing a LOT of driving, about 300 miles a week. So my left foot is in serious pain from pushing the clutch down. Lots of stress and strain on that left foot.My biggest problem, foot-wise, is that I have a condition called pes cavus. This really means that my arches are incredibly high (my doc calls them the 4-finger arch because you can stick all four fingers under my foot while I am standing, And put some padding on them too). And high arches are very difficult to treat, it is hard to find appropriate supports and orthotics and, per my doc, the most painful foot condition there is. The problem is that the tendon that is covered by the plantar fascia wants to shorten over time. So my arches get higher. In order to stop this, I have to treat both the plantar fasciaitis and the pes cavus at the same time. Usually, keeping my orthotics on all the time (even in slippers) will keep things nice and quiet. But with the clutching, I am now in significant pain.In terms of this particular brace, it is not the brace for me for differing reasons, but none of them have to do with the brace itself, or how it was advertised. I was just hoping to avoid sleeping in a plastic boot versus a nice soft fuzzy boot. My bad. Because soft usually doesn't provide the support needed.The brace is, as advertised, soft and flexible. You can move your toes up and down about 3 inches while in the brace, with all the straps down tight. So if you want soft support, this is the brace for you. The material and padding are really nice, and it is actually nice to sleep in because it keeps my feet warm. The straps are nice and wide for the calf and the foot. The wedge has velcro on it so you can move it to where you need more stretch and it will not fall out (very nice - someone was actually thinking here). I have put my custom orthotic in it, plus added some padding for the arch, but the boot is too soft to really allow me to get that support. But that really isn't the boots' problem, as it really is what it looks like.Shipping, which is really my big issue. I am a prime member, and this was advertised with prime shipping. And there was this nice, "want it by such and such, order in blank hours and minutes." But I was in so much pain, I went ahead and spent an extra amount for overnight shipping. So I paid for extra shipping to get it one day earlier. Guess what! The day came and went, and I checked and there was a message saying that there was an issue with shipping because of inclement weather or natural disaster at the carrier location. But it also showed that it had been received in the local warehouse, so it was probably sitting less than 30 miles from my house. And guess what! The closest thing to a natural disaster we had had while this was being delayed was the blooming of the wildflowers on the highway, which sometimes causes accidents because people pull over to take pictures in the bluebonnets. Nor did it arrive the next day. Finally, three days later the box was at my door.And it was a mess. One side had a rip down it and you could see into the box. One end of the taping had come undone, and the edge of the boot was sticking out. Luckily it wasn't damaged, but the plastic around it was pretty scratched up.This is the second time I have had this happen. Why do I pay for a prime membership, then pay additional shipping, to go through this? And then I tried to contact Amazon customer service, and the wait was so long I gave up. I am going to go back and review the seller in a bit, but considering it was covered under prime shipping, Amazon should be picking this up. I guess the only thing a prime membership is good for these days is Kindle books and streaming video and music.
