Awesome game for musicians (or those who want to learn)
I've been playing music for nearly 30 years, and while I liked the concept of Rock Band I've always wanted more--something that would let me hook up a bass or guitar and play along to some of my favorite tunes. Thankfully, Rocksmith delivers, and I can't recommend it highly enough if you are a musician and also love video games.I picked up Rocksmith 2014 on sale (for 40 bucks including the USB cable--which was too good to pass up). Installation was easy. The game does a decent job giving you little tutorial bits along the way. It has a lot of features that I'll probably never use all that much (customizing amps and tinkering with sound settings, etc.) but it's good to know that's there in case I ever want to really dig in to all the features. The library of songs included range from some classic rock to more contemporary metal and alternative numbers. If you're like me you'll find some tunes that you like, some that you won't, and even more that you've never heard of. Thankfully, you can import songs from previous versions of Rocksmith. I found a cheap copy of the original Rocksmith for Xbox 360 and spent another 10 bucks to import the songs into RS2014. It was worth the price for me, but may not be for everyone.About my only gripe with the game is that, initially, none of the DLC would show up in the shop. Then magically about a month later I can now shop for song packs on Xbox One. Not sure what was going on (licensing issues? server problems?). There are tons of individual songs and song packs to choose from, and now I'm worried about spending too much money! Two small gripes: Unlike the PC version, if you want to play co-op you need an extra Xbox One controller. I don't know why the game requires it but it's kind of stupid (although this may be an Xbox One thing and not a design decision on Ubisoft's part). Also, you may experience varying degrees of input lag depending on your set up. If you can output audio via optical cable to a receiver that's preferable. You can tinker with settings to improve the lag, but it's noticeable at times.I'd like to see more indie bands in the shop, and also some classic stuff like Motown, Staxx/Volt, etc. The game is clearly marketed toward guitar players but I almost exclusively use it for bass. Would love to see Ubisoft put out a few packs geared towards bass players that highlight some of the masters of old (e.g. Jamerson, Dunn) along with more genre packs (punk, post-punk, funk, rap, etc.).In short, I'm glad that Rocksmith is a thing and I hope its audience continues to grow. It's awesome and I recommend it to anyone who wants to practice their chops or host a music night with friends. Totally worth the purchase.

Great - but make sure you have the right audio setup.
The first thing you need to be aware of before purchasing Rocksmith is that there is a known issue with audio lag if you're using HDMI cables for both video and audio on your PS4 or XBox One. Really, Ubisoft recommends having an audio receiver connected via optical audio cable for sound, and HDMI for video out to the TV only (see full details here: http://rocksmith.ubi.com/rocksmith/en-us/setup/index.aspx). If you don't have this setup, you will definitely experience a delay in the timing between when you pluck a string on your guitar, and when you hear it from your television speakers. So buyer beware on that, if it's something you think will be a detriment to your playing experience (as it was mine). I ended up purchasing a Samsung soundbar, for which I had been looking for an excuse to buy, in order to address the issue (don't forget the optical audio cable).Beyond the above facts, this is a great game. To be clear, though, it is more than just a game. It's technically a guitar-playing simulator. So if you're looking for something more arcade-like, look to the Guitar Hero franchise or Rock Band. What Rocksmith does differently primarily comes from the fact that they require a real electric guitar, with real lessons and progressions that lead you up to being able to play actual songs. But they make it tons of fun, and provide incentives to make real progress, so it doesn't feel like you're practicing. You can choose a training regimen that takes you through lead guitar or rhythm guitar, and there are plenty of songs in the base pack that comes with the game. If that's not enough for you, there are additional songs and song packs for specific bands available for purchase through the Microsoft store (I assume that Sony has the same in its store for PS4 users). All in all a great experience for beginners and experienced guitar-players alike.

So much better than I expected
My daughter wanted to learn to play guitar, so we bought her a starter guitar kit and, at my husband's suggestion based on recommendations he's heard, we also bought Rocksmith 2014. You do have to buy this game (I hesitate to call it a game, but for ease of writing, please bear woth me) new, it seems, because other stores that sell used games don't have the equipment to test the cable that comes with the game to plug into the guitar and your game system, which is how the game recognizes what you're playing on the guitar. It does an amazingly good job of that, by the way. It walks you through basic set up, tuning your guitar, and basic playing technique. It asks about your experience level and guides you through lessons accordingly. When you play a wrong note, it not only picks up on it, but gives you corrective instruction such as, "that sounded like the third fret - you want the second fret." If you miss a noye, it will have you try again, and will slow down or speed up the tempo based on how successfully you're picking up what you're learning. Learning to play basic riffs is similar to the format used in the Guitar Hero games, only for a real guitar. There are also fun video game style games that help you develop your technique. I think this will prove to be a good learning tool.

Excelente recomendación.
El mejor juego que pude haber comprado. Paso horas tocando y aprendiendo.

Xbox one game is faster then Xbox 360
Upgraded to the Xbox One so needed a new copy of Rocksmith 2014 - it's much faster than the 360 game, and clearer graphics (but it could be the new system) - only down fall was we had to do an extra step to get all our downloads, but that's a Rocksmith issue when moving different platforms

Apart from taking a while to get here it is a good game, just need to get my head into proper gear to play it though, would have also helped if it said whether or not the real tone cable was with it or not as well as the 2 are needed to play the game in the first place.
