Sturdy, attractive, practical.
I use this to prop up sheet music on my desk top. Wide enough for two eight-by-eleven sheets; and the two clips at the bottom, which I didn't intend to use, prove helful when I'm using a fan!

How to manage a giant training manual
Recently I purchased an instruction manual for database software. I wanted to place it near my computer so I could read the instructions and turn the pages as I worked through complex training examples. The paperback spread open measures sixteen inches across, stands nine inches high, and has 1,091 pages. Something this size calls for a stand such as might be seen in libraries, schools, or offices. I found just the thing in the Large Bamboo Book Stand made by Linnai Products and sold through Amazon at a very reasonable price. The workmanship is good, the bamboo has a smooth, attractive natural finish, and the stand has five slots for adjusting the tilt for reading ease. The book sits on a hinged, foldout bamboo shelf with attached flexible metal fingers that hold the pages in place. The tips of the page holders are encased in soft plastic to prevent damage to the book pages. The book stand accommodates small books as well as the giants. A 9" by 7" or a 7" by 9" fits easily and the page holders swivel as needed to keep the pages in place without obscuring the text or pictures. The book stand is easy to transport as the page holders fold into a slot in the shelf, which in turn folds flat against the face of the stand. The tilt mechanism folds flat against the back of the stand, making a compact bundle for carrying.

Be aware of some limitations – but will work for most people!
So first, some actual dimensions and measurements. The main board has a useable height of 10-1/4 inches with a width of 15-1/4”. The book ledge has a depth of 1 inch – which does somewhat limit the use to books of this thickness if you want to be able to use both metal book arms from starting to read the book. The book ledge hinge does impede into the right angle between the main board and the book ledge when opened and in use. No surprise there – you can clearly see that it does so in the product pictures. But, there’s really no reason that the hinge could not have been mounted inset so that the book ledge made a clean 90 degree join to the main board when in use – which would have been better on book edges in use. Also, a working book ledge depth of at least 1-1/2 inches would be better. It has 5 book angles, which from the horizontal are; 46 degrees; 56 degrees; 66 degrees; 77 degrees and 90 degrees. For the heavy book in the location that I am reading I would have preferred a lower angle to the horizontal to better reduce light reflection and better suit my reading height. If the wooden stand was lengthened from 5-3/4 inched to 6-3/4 inches another notch could have been accommodated which would have allowed a 30-degree reading position – yet still allowed everything else to fold up flat as it presently does.It appears well made – and it arrived clean, ready for use, with no oil or residues on any surface. So, 4 stars as it is – three simple improvements and it would be a 5-star product with a greater range of book applicability.

Probably the best stand of its kind. Here’s why.
I studied all the similar products sold by Amazon and others before choosing this one. Some reported a greasy finish. Yes, it had a tiny bit of protective oil. Bamboo doesn’t absorb that, so after wiping for about a minute with a paper towel, the 2nd towel came up clean. No problems. The clips feel sturdy to me, but I have not used it long enough for them to “pop off” if they are going to. I’m not worried. I can easily use a better screw if these do not work, but I see no evidence to suggest they will be popping off. In fact, I love the clips! They’re great! The stand folds to a thickness of 1 ⅜ inches at its widest part. Most of it is less than an inch. Unfolded, in action, it’s dimensions are 15 inches wide by 11 inches tall by about 7 inches deep (with support extended). Of course, the stand itself is only about as deep as a book. The ledge is 1 3/16 inches deep, enough to hold most books, especially when they are open. The clips exert a lot of force. Very sturdy bamboo construction. The fold-down back support is also milled bamboo with grooves for catching the metal bail which adjusts the tilt. The sturdy metal bail will allow the surface to tilt from about 20° to 45° off the vertical. 20° being the closest it gets to vertical, and 45° the closest it gets to laying flat. Of course, in your lap you may opt to just prop it on your legs without the aid of the support stand. It’s made for tabletop, countertop, and desktop use, but if you wanted to use it in bed, you might get best results placing it on a tray, like a cafeteria tray or what we used to call TV dinner trays. Then the supporting back would have a flat surface to rest on.I think most of the similar stands are too small. This one is 15” wide which provides support for sheet music (one of my main reasons for getting it), and large reference books or coffee-table books. It will hold dimestore novels, too, but most of the similar stands won’t do justice to sheet music and the other books I just named. There are no plastic parts. Yay! The wooden parts are sturdily joined with wood screws and possibly glue. I’ve tried using it in many ways now — reading music, reading books, holding my business while I’m making phone calls and working, holding an iPad or iPhone or both — and I’m sure I’ll think of many more applications as time goes on. I believe this will be with me a long time, and because it’s all wood, if anything DOES go wrong, I can fix it in 5 minutes with a screwdriver and screws of my choosing. I doubt I’ll ever have to do that. I highly recommend this stand. It’s practically perfect in every way, so 5 stars for this!

Goodbye arm strain
I bought this for my uni biology textbook. The book was too heavy for me to hold and I had to use it for 3 different units. This allowed me to set it up on my desk/coffee table and read without my arms being twisted. I can see this would be a great tool for recipe books and music also

Excellent
The book stand was delivered very promptly. It is good quality and as described. It is intended as a gift, not yet received by the recipient, but I am confident it will be well received.
