Okay, not for real beginners
This is an okay book. However, I thought it would be much simpler. It says "Early" on the included photo, but when you get the book it says "Step 1". Step 1 is too advanced for children who are learning to read their first words. The words included in this book are long and complicated, like "airplane" and "dinosaur". If your child has already grasped word structure and connecting phonetic sounds together, this would be the next step. It isn't a book for building the groundwork.I have a set of the Bob Books collection, which is great. I recommend those for your new reader, since they string similar phonetic sounds together, like "Sam sat on the cat", much easier for building the basic structure of words and sounds. The book also "cheats". The bolded word has a picture featured, so the kid can just uses the visual cues. This is better for sight word learning rather than phonetic learning.

Great First Reader
This is a great first reader for children. It teaches the ABC's while entertaining the little ones with a rhyming story about a birthday party. It is sure to delight any child. I purchased this book a couple of years ago when my daughter was just 4. She loved it and was very quickly able to read it on her own. Today, at age 6, she still enjoys it and loves reading it to her 3 year old brother. I highly recommend this book for any little on who is new to the world of reading.

Book Review
Excellent book for teaching young readers to begin reading; my granddaughter finds these books fascinating and she likes to read them as bedtime stories.
