Review: Decent Launch monitor w/ ability to calibrate yardages - Purchased the Yupiteru GST-5W Launch monitor in October 2022. Did not get a chance to thoroughly test it out until January 2023, primarily due to winter weather conditions. First thing that I noticed is that the yardages on the launch monitor are carry yardages. For those who have submitted reviews of the GST-5W unit, they say it's off 10 yards+ or more, I would ask you how do you know it's off? Are you basing your assessment on carry yardages or total yardages? Back to my launch monitor testing: I tested it on an outdoor driving range, hitting yellow range balls off artificial turf mats. The distances appeared close to the Yupiteru on mid-to long irons, but really: How do you know your driver carried it 225 vs 245 yards? Soo, I tested it indoors at a local Club Champion driving range bay using Titleist and Callaway premium golf balls. Based on the Trackman carry yardages, I was able to calibrate all my wedges, irons and woods/driver to be very close on the Yupiteru to the indoor Trackman. Remember, these are carry yardages, not total yardage. One little known nugget about Yupiteru launch monitors is that there is an ability to calibrate the distance algorithm or distance coefficient. Yep, that's right, this is the only launch monitor that you can adjust the distance algorithm for each individual club in the bag. I have some instructions for adjusting the distance coefficient below this thread. I would suggest that you have a discussion with an expert club fitter using Trackman/GC Quad about the differences in distances measured using radar vs. cameras, indoors vs. outdoors. There are deviations which any cheaper launch monitor (<$500 price range) will not be able to pick up based on ball flight and spin. I have tried the Swing Caddie, Rapsodo, PRGR, Mevo, Garmin R10. They ALL have some inconsistencies to varying degrees. Some of is due to environment, method of data capture, quality of golf balls, and soo many more variables. Good luck in your golf journey. But the Yupiteru GST 5W is a good value investment if you want to use this for indoor home practice. INSTRUCTIONS to adjust Distance Coefficient: Turn Device OFF Long Press the two arrow keys and the ON button Select club with arrow keys Press selector key (Historic) Adjust Coefficient with arrow keys ADJUST COEFFICIENT to 100% by turning device OFF Long Press Historic key and ON button Review: inexpensive, easy to use, love the ability to save sessions - i'm using this for exactly what i needed, gapping distances. tried next to a Trackman simulator and it was very close on yardages. i love the ability to save my sessions.

Fantastic Product
Let me start by saying that you can ignore the reviews by people who are mad it’s in Japanese. Those are people who are too lazy to research a product before buying it and also too lazy to just take 10 minutes of their time to use Google Translate to read the manual. Also, regarding the ones who say it doesn’t work, they either had a fluke defective device or they didn’t know how to use it. I got mine and love it! It is very accurate and I have used it at the driving range. It’s easy to figure out even if you don’t read the manual. (Hint: you can convert meters/second to miles/hour by multiplying the number on the screen by 2.237). It does not have the Bluetooth option that the newer models do, but it does record onto a micro SD card which can transfer to an Excel sheet. You can adjust the distance coefficient if the loft on your club is different than what they have set up for that club (remember that every 4 degrees of loft equals 5 yards). Don’t spend $500 on something if you only need carry distance, club head speed, ball speed and smash factor. This is good for you.

Love the compact size
Love the size, weight and price. I wish it worked better though. It doesn't pick up balls as well as others, and perhaps not as accurate. I know there is a way of calibrating, but that shouldn't be my job. Even though the manual is written in Japanese, it is intuitive to use.

Almost 100%
This little "launch monitor" works 100% of the time both indoors and out. If it misses a shot, it's usually because of bad contact. Measures only carry yardage, swing speed, ball speed and smash factor. I've found device best works between 40" to 60" behind ball. and my indoor net is only 7-8 feet away but device still picks up shot. Outdoors I think it's fine and you may find it even better than indoors as far as yardage goes. It will measure swing speed and estimated yardage for practice swings. It will always pick some information, even on missed hits, it will give you swing speed and estimated yardage but not ball speed nor smash factor. Has a rechargeable battery but don't lose the included cable. The big drawback, everything is in Japanese but there are plenty of YT videos out there. Swing and ball speed is measured in meters per second, to get MPH just multiply by 2.237. Well worth the money!!!

YUPITERU Atlas Golf Swing Trainer
I made this purchase around the Christmas Holiday. The price was hard to resist. The screen indicated Japanese readings with the exception of “yd” (yards). Well, as a Long Drive competitor, that was good for me. I didn’t expect much, so I was pleasantly surprised that the product worked. It misses some shots but that’s okay. For the price it was a worthwhile purchase.

Consistently inconsistent
I used the Yupiteru GST-5W over 2 days at a grass driving range and found the data to be inconsistent and was reporting unrealistic smash factors. The reported distances seem to be in-line with my expected yardages but the smash factors were way too high. For my driver, it consistently displayed smash factors over 1.7 which I don't think is humanly possible - the #1 average smash factor on the PGA Tour this year was 1.51. As smash factor is calculated is calculated as ball speed divided by clubhead speed, either the ball speed was too high, the clubhead speed was too low or both. It appears that it was reading low clubhead speed but I am not certain. I'm not sure if this was a problem with just my unit as I have not seen other reviewers mentioning the same problem but I am sending my unit back.

Small unit but powerful. Handy to carry. Relatively accurate.

Der swing trainer tut was er soll und ist für den günstigen Preis sehr zuverlässig.

Good for speed training in the range. Sensor set same level as golf ball to get accurate readings. But poor quality range ball will give inaccurate smash factor.

The GST-5 W is a great golf trainer even though the instructions and screen are mostly in Japanese - the numbers are universal and give you swing speed (m/s), ball speed(m/s) and yardage(yds). Other reviews say m/s=metres per second and yds=yards but I suspect yds=metres based on my S60 Garment. Before you start swinging you need to select the club using the push buttons and fortunately it is shown in English letters on the screen. I use the trainer in the nets when I make swing changes to see what improves (or not). The device has a USB cable for charging and it last weeks before needing a recharge. It is light and you can use it on the golf course, at the expense of annoying your mates, just by putting it 1 metre behind you on the ground. I chose it because it was much cheaper than alternatives and had good reviews. I ordered it direct from Japan and it took about 2 weeks to get to Sydney. So far, very happy with the trainer.
