Southern AG has good chemicals.
The fertilizer and chemicals from Southern AG are effective and easy to use. I've used them before to eradicate slugs. I use the calcium nitrate to speed up straw, leaf, and grass compost. The bag arrived torn and spilled everywhere, the Amazon box was damaged and had granules falling out. I suggest using a stronger plastic bag that'll survive shipping. The item was returned without issue. I'm leaving a 5 star review since it's not their fault and want people to know that they're reliable but to be cautious when opening the box.

Great product for saving tomatoes
This works great on helping keep the black spots from forming on tomatoes. We were starting to get them this year. Found out that if your soil is low in calcium nitrate, black spots will appear on your tomatoes. Egg shells will work but you have to let them dry out, break them down and work them into the ground. This method takes way too long to help in one season but this product will help instantly. Only have seen a few tomatoes with spots. I finally have great tomatoes and my neighbors and son were jealous. It was easy to do and it saved my plants. The cost of the product of the product were minimal when it saved my tomatoes. Thank you!

Not 100% water soluble!
Not 100% water soluble.. Ive tried every way possible. I haven't used "jacks" cal-nit but I now use masterblends 4-18-38 + calcium nitrate & any cheap pure Epsom salts. MB cal-nit is absolutely 100% water soluble ๐

Petroleum smell and waxy film
There is an obvious gasoline/petroleum smell to this product. Calcium nitrate is odorless so something has been added to the prills. When you dissolve it, there is a smelly, waxy film on the glass beaker and in the surface of the liquid. This is not pure calcium nitrate. UPDATE: I have researched this issue further and found the following - 1) because calcium nitrate is highly hygroscopic (it absorbs moisture from the air) many suppliers of calcium nitrate coat their prills with a wax so the material flows through agricultural machinery without clumping; 2) because of this coating, a waxy/greasy residue will form if you try to make a solution using this form of calcium nitrate and may clog sensitive hydroponic lines in the process; 3) if you want calcium nitrate that is NOT COATED, you should look for "greenhouse grade" calcium nitrate.

Authenticity of product
I got a plastic container of product says calcium nitrate with a copied sticker of southern AG on the other side, though the product description is 5 LB BAG. The instructions to use is vague. I bought it to use for my grape vines, but this pack is questionable to use for fruit plants and trees. As i have a doubt whether this is a genuine product of southern AG, i plan to return.
