Binder is junk but content is great.
The content is good and the directions are easy to follow. I bought this for my father so that he can continue speech therapy at home after a massive stroke. This looks easy to follow and I think that my mother will be able to work with him every day by giving him a couple of pages to do. Unfortunately, they are in another state so I will have to follow his progress at a distance and will update this review when they give me some feedback. I think that this will prove to be a useful tool to help him maximize his progress. The binder is a great idea, but mine had a ring that didn't quite close so the pages caught every time I tried to turn them. Also, the inside front cover is already split almost the entire way down the seem. I will have to see if Amazon can help me out with a replacement but since I had a large binder on hand, I just moved the content into that one for now.Update: Amazon has replaced the defective product, no problem. I did notice that the replacement was shrink wrapped but the first one wasn't. If you buy this, just take a minute to check it over and make sure it is in good condition.

Great Workbook for Aphasia
My husband suffered a stroke on October 1st and initially received speech therapy, however upon returning to our small city we found there were no speech therapists available within a 200 mile radius. We ordered the Workbook for Aphasia and were delighted with the quantity and quality of the exercises in the book. The Workbook for Aphasia: Exercises for Expressive And Receptive Language Functioning (William Beaumont Hospital has been a tremendous help to my husband and he can now carry on a normal conversation with very little problem finding words. The exercises in this book are of equal or greater quality than those of a professional speech therapist. aphasia workbook
I bought this book after my husband suffered a stroke and had aphasia which I had never ever heard that word. It helped us to overcome a lot of problems. I think it is a very good exercise book for someone in that condition and if you really work hard in it, you would see benefits. At least I would hope the best for anyone under these circumstances. It was a needed item at the time and proved most useful.

It's good but emphasis on advanced
The book is quite nice. It comes in a 3 ring binder and has 8 or 10 tabs of exercises and was a nicer presentation than I had anticipated. Perhaps I didn't read the description too thoroughly but one should note it is mostly medium to advanced exercises. For us, there aren't enough of the easy category. For example, one whole tab (the biggest section) has broken words and scrambled words. Good "brain teasers" for an adult prior to brain cancer, but when someone is trying to re-learn at a beginner level as an adult, you need the words to be correct, not already messed up. Unfortunately that is not the only section and the majority of book is too advanced for my mom. This makes it a touchy subject because she sees how big the book is, yet it's very hard to give her an exercise to do, because we've already done the easier ones (even those are challenging for her). So, my recommendation goes both ways. I gave it high stars because for certain people it is fantastic and well worth it (it would be 5 stars), but for some people to is too challenging and causes problems (frustration and tears) because it is too difficult and can make someone feel even worse. It know that is not the intention, but in our case its true.

For the untrained speech therapist
This book was recomended for me to use when I worked with my husband after his speech therapy was stopped. I love it and copy the pages as we go along so he can write his answers down. The chapters are set up t o work on certain problems people with aphasia have and I find this helps me know what I am doing. I use sheets from each chapter so we cover all our problem areas. GREAT BOOK.
