The Lion King: Pride Rock On Broadway (A Disney Theatrical Souvenir Book)

I had seen TV clips advertising the Broadway version of The Lion King for several years and was intrigued, but I didn't get to see a live production until 2014. I was fascinated by the opening ten minutes and never suspected there was anything like the puppets used -- fifteen-foot-tall giraffes, leaping gazelles, amazingly lifelike prowling cheetahs, a lumbering elephant -- not to mention the lion masks (one is featured on the cover). The next morning I came to Amazon looking for more information in the "How did they DO that?" category and found this mesmerizing book. Unlike anything else I've ever seen, and much more amazing than the Rock-Em-Sock-Em computer-generated special effects that dominate movies, the play left me in awe of the creative imagination behind it; and this book gives you an in-depth glimpse of how the magic came to be. WOW!

If you've ever seen The Lion King, you will be delighted by this book. At its 20th anniversary, The Lion King only got better with the passage of time. This book is an excellent description of Julie Taymor's artistic process and 190 pages of rich, color photographs. Don't deny yourself the pleasure of enjoying your memories enriched by the photographs and information in this book.

The book is wonderful and the seller is top notch! We are attending the musical in the spring and I wanted my daughters to understand not only the art involved in the production but also the inspiration and engineering behind all of the exquisite details they will be seeing. So great for them to see the evolution of ideas as they progress from sketches to actual costumes and set designs. I'm sure it will increase their appreciation for this magical theater experience.Book arrived early and was exactly as described.

I'm 11 years young. I LOVED this book. the lion king has my favorite soundtrack, my role model and my favorite musical. This book explained how the whole broadway theatre production came together. I have seen the musical The Lion King when it came to my hometown and I thoroughly enjoyed it Ever since I bought the book on the making of Beauty and the Beast, I have been trying to find this book, because I wanted to see the making of the Lion King, especially the masks used for the different characters. I'm glad I finally found it.

I bought THE LION KING: PRIDE ROCK ON BROADWAY as a used book on Amazon.com. While the description indicated that it was in used condition, when the book arrived (sooner than the indicated delivery date) it was in absolute mint condition. This is one of my favorite movies and now Broadway shows. I had a wonderful time reading about what it took to put this truly creative show on stage. It has become one of favorite books about musical theater.
