Review: Before I bought this my headphones just weren't loud enough... - Let's get one thing out of the way - I am NOT an audiophile. However, I am a person who owns and uses a variety of headphones and ear buds. I am also a person who is a bit hard of hearing. Before I purchased the Sound Blaster X G6 external sound card, most of the headphones I used just weren't loud enough. I had a pair of wired earbuds that I've had for several years that were loud enough for me to truly enjoy music, video games, movies, and other media on any of my devices. Unfortunately, last month, the cord developed a short in it, which pretty much rendered the earbuds useless. That prompted me to replace the earbuds. Initially, I was going to purchase the exact same pair (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). Well, wouldn't you know, the company is no longer in business. This sad fact eventually lead me to investing in a pair of wired Inner Ear Monitors or IEMs which are an upgrade from your standard earbuds but not as expensive as the top of the line, noise cancelling, name brand earbuds endorsed by rappers and rock stars. I did my research and bought two pair of IEMs that had impressive reviews, but did not break my budget. While one pair of the IEMs was just loud enough to be useful for me, the other set just didn't cut the mustard when it came to the volume level. I broke down and purchased a different brand of IEMs and the new pair had great sound, but also not enough volume. I really didn't want to spend money on another pair of IEMs, regardless of their inexpensive cost (it was starting to add up). I was researching an app that could increase the volume of the content that I play on my phone, when I found a post that talked about the Sound Blaster X G6 External soundcard, and how it was able to really enhance the user's experience playing video games. I changed the topic of my search to the Sound Blaster X G6 and I found a ton of articles and videos about how people were blown away by how different their experience was by using this portable little plug and play device. Needless to say, I had to hear it for myself. I purchased my device and was pleased with the compact size of the unit. The portability allows me to use this device in more ways than I anticipated. I can connect it to my android phone by using a USB C to 3.5 mm adapter that can be purchased for less than $20.00. That allows me to use it anytime I consume media on my cell phone. I can also use it with my laptop computer by connecting it directly using the included microUSB cord included with the package. I can also use it when I play video games or watch movies on my PS5. There is one caveat. Since this product was released before USB C became the standard type of port to power / charge devices, the Sound Blaster X G6 still uses a microUSB port to supply power to the unit. You can plug the microUSB cord into the same plug in wall charger that you use for your cell phone. You can also supply power through an open USB port on your computer or video game console. A third option which I hadn't initially considered was that it's possible to use a portable charging bank to supply power to the Sound Blaster X, at least until the portable charging bank has used up all of it's stored power. I suggest investing in either a usb extension cord with an A Male to A Female connection or an extra long microUSB cord for maximum portability. That way, you can plug the microUSB up to the wall or other power source when you are laying in bed or away from a laptop or other device with a powered USB connection. I've had the device for several weeks and I can honestly say that it works wonders for me, especially for my hearing condition. I have trouble hearing high frequencies and also some of the low end bass frequencies. With the Sound BlasterX G6, I can purchase any pair of IEMs and feel confident that I can have more than enough audible space to increase the volume to my liking. You can also connect the device to your computer to adjust the internal settings and EQ to fine tune the sound to your liking., The unit saves your adjustments and settings, even when you are not connected to that same computer. Overall, this product seems like it was made for me. It has made several pairs of IEMs and over the ear headphones that I own sound vibrant and alive. I would recommend this product to anyone who would like to enhance their audio listening experience.
Review: Great External Soundcard/dac - I use this for raw throughput, not the simulated surround. I got it to replace a mixamp pro 2013/14 with a failing volume pot. Most people can't tell the difference in sound quality, and to be honest I can't tell anything beyond 24/92000 but that's probably a limitation of my source files. I can however tell a great difference between 16 bit 44khz and 24/32bit 92000/384000. This thing does what you want it to do if you're looking for a sound card, and much more. It does sound better than my ALC1220 onboard sound from my MSI gaming M7 z270 motherboard which is 32 bit 92000khz. Not by alot, but I believe the sound is cleaner, as the mobo forces more power through. I listen to each for different use cases however. It can power my 300ohm HD 6xx's almost to an unreasonable volume with the built in amp, but I still usually use it with a schiit magni 3 heresy amp. I also use it with modded HD 555's, and my Astro A40s. (and to a lesser extent moondrop starfield IEMs, all sound wonderful) The A40s sound much better on the mixamp, but that's because they're bad headphones that sound awesome with their specific DSP (digital signal processing) coming out of the mixamp pro. This does have those additional features if you want them, simulated surround in 5.1 and 7.1, they work well enough. The ONLY minor minor issue I have is the volume control. You need to move it slowly, which is also a good thing so you don't blast your ears out. It is just sometimes too slow when I want to reduce volume. (It is digital volume control, not analog, which is good because it shouldn't have the problem my mixamp has with its volume wheel). I actually just convinced myself the one negative was a positive. 5 stars, very happy.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the internal dac chip used is it Sabre or other?**
A: I'm sorry but i think creative is mistaken on what they did when they provided you an answer earlier. ;-) I read that the G5 uses a Cirrus Logic CS4398, and that the CS43131 is used in the G6. Creative states that they use the CS4398 for the G5 this on the G5 product page at amazon.ca, and also at the product page at the Creative site if you look it up... ;-)
"Audiophile-grade Headphone Amplifier

The G5 is not just a 24-bit/192kHz, 120dB USB DAC. With a Texas Instruments TPA6120A2 headphone amplifier with a low output impedance of 2.2Ω, the G5 is capable of driving headphones of up to 600Ω impedance as well as sensitive in-ear monitors in the market today.

This pocket-sized external gaming sound card also supports high-resolution audio playback of up to 24-bit/192kHz, thanks to its Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC, which has a Signal-to-Noise Ratio of 120dB." Cheers.

**Q: Is there a proper ps4 update for this product?? I read in the reviews below and there are issues.does anyone have a good setting for black ops4 ps4**
A: I’m still working on this. It’s pretty much trial and error with the eq. I did boost a lot on the mid range to hear footsteps more and put the surround on “narrow”. I think that’s key as you don’t want a wide sound stage. It will make enemies sound further that where the are. My best suggestion is to hook it up on PC but have the optical run from your PS4. From there I went into the software to manually tweet the eq in a solo match. I tried the scout mode and it was a little too much and it will lower some parts of the game that you need to hear. It depends on the headphones you are using as well and what frequencies it automatically boosts.

**Q: Will the g3 soundblaster card work with the arctis 7 using a 4 pole to 3 pole adapter?**
A: The headset jack of the Creative Sound Blaster G3 is already 4-pole, hence you will not need any adapter if the headset is already using a standard 4-pole connection.

**Q: Hi, can this improve my conference call audio quality?**
A: The Sound Blaster G3 is a highly versatile accessory that's perfect for work and play. It can improve your audio for your conference calls or while gaming.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Above average for music and gaming
*by S***9 on February 14, 2020*

PROS: Easy to use. Good for headphones with many different settings like EQ and other extra features. Versatile that you can use on PCs and the major consoles like PS4, Switch and Xbox. CONS: The various features are marketed as giving you an edge while gaming, but for me it doesn't do much. Software has a slight learning curve. Does not have a battery thus not portable like other DACs/AMPs. Has separate volume settings for in game sounds and voice chat but it's controlled via the software. After a bit of research into DACs and AMPS for my headphones, I settled on this. I wanted something that could power and my headphones for music and gaming. I bounce between AKG K7XX Red and Audio Technica ATH-AD900X. The Sound BlasterX G6 does a decent job in reproducing sound. It's a USB based connection. I travel a ton for work so I mainly game on my laptop. It's easy to set up in Windows with plug and play and the software install is a breeze. Has plenty of juice to power to drive higher end headphones. For music this is a really good device. You can set individual EQ settings for all different types of music. Plenty of customization and tweaking with Creative's software. They have also many preset profiles if you just want to set it to something and not worry about it. When it comes to gaming it's a bit of a mixed bag. For single player games I think it's great. Makes the environment more immersive, music sound better etc etc. However for competitive FPS games where you rely on sounds to locate a enemy, having the different affects turned on in my opinion makes it worse. It sounds artificial and fake, the bass gets extra punchy, foot steps are muddled, even with the "scout mode" turned on. I also wished you could control in game sound and voice chat via the hardware controls like Steelseries gaming DAC. Honestly I think it's just better to have the extra features disabled for competitive FPS games. I think it's a good DAC at a decent price for music and single player type games, however, if all you play are competitive FPS type games like CS or Overwatch, you may be better off looking for something less pricey.
