Metra XSVI-9003-NAV Non-Amplified Non-OnStar Harness to Retain Accessory Power

Used when replacing head unit in '06 VW Jetta. Proprietary German wiring requires adapters to fit after-market parts. Wiring colours matched perfectly to the new head unit. Pay particular attention to the instructions for initializing the adapter. I had some issues after installation as I didn't follow them correctly. This lead to the radio having no power the next morning. Disconnected battery for 30 secs and everything worked again, but it kept happening intermittently, and I have to keep going through radio set up menus. Contacted support and they were great. Here is their email: [email protected] Advice copied from the email they sent me: I would start the whole process over again by putting the factory radio back in, closing all entry points, and starting the car. Then turn the radio off, take the key out of the ignition fully, open and close the drivers door. Remove the radio, install the XSVI and aftermarket radio, turn the key to ignition for thirty seconds, take the key fully out, and open and close the drivers door. Start the car and reinspect, then advise back on the results. It also may be a good idea to check all connections, and harness' for them slipping slightly loose. It sounds like you just have a glitch in the vehicle. Advice followed (shouldn't have been so impatient!) and everything working well. Recommended.

Allowed me to hook up my subs and aftermarket radio

Good kit to keep from cutting your factory wiring. All factory functionality such as the delayed shut off is retained when installed properly. I recommend a proper install with soldered connections and heat shrink tubing to avoid any troubles due to vibration, etc down the road. you already have a disconnect from the factory harness in the car because of this kit, so there is no need to unhook from the radio itself unless you change head units. At that point, cut and resolder. A lot of stuff that needs to be fit in behind / around the head unit so you may have to make extensions to give enough flexibility to fit it all.

Everything works my only criticism would be it doesn't actually restore factory function but it's close. With the original radio it was able to stay on with the key out as long as you didn't open the door. Once you opened the door the radio would shut off. This set up is slightly different but works great for what I need. It shuts off the radio after removing the key which works for me to avoid battery drain. Overall I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

I used this in a 2003 Jetta Tdi with Monsoon. It is important you follow the direction for initialization. I did run into a small issue with the stereo staying on with the key out and the door open and only turning off when I locked the door. This was not an issue with the product. It was an issue with the door lock actuator. It is a common issue. If this happens to you, try testing that the headlight alert chime functions properly, if not you have the same issue as I did. This makes installation a snap and allows you to retain all of the factory features (no Steering Controls on mine, that requires an additional part).

Turns out that the MK6 generation Volkswagens don't have a 12V switched connection on the wiring harness. This means that using a standard wiring harness without the can bus adapter will likely result in battery drain for most aftermarket head units. I learned this the hard way after what looked to be a successful install, but later resulted in a dead battery after leaving the car undriven for 1 week. This product resolved my battery drain issues and still allows for the unit to remain on after turning off the car (retained accessory power). If you're not going to solder the wires together, you'll probably also need some butt connectors to connect this harness to whatever came with your head unit. Pay attention to the wiring colors since some look very similar (e.g. green/black and green/purple).

Just a case of matching the description of the wires on this harness to the harness on your new radio (most of the colors matched right up ) and with XSVI Interface, The radio shuts off as soon as the car is powered off and you open the driver's door. I would recommend using solder and heat shrink tubing when connecting the 2 harnesses

It was time to upgrade the stereo in my Passat. This harness makes it so easy. No guess work just match the colors and your good to go. Save yourself some money and do it yourself. No cutting wires. Had it in in about 10 minutes.

Installed in a 2003 Jetta GLI with monsoon sound system. Everything worked fine. Make sure you follow the initialization process. Also check that your door switches are working as expected.
