Very attractive Price. But I Think Not Quite 850 Fill Power. *by A***L on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 22, 2017* This is my review for the 1 lb bag of Unite Goose Down Filling that we bought to fill my second home-made ultra-light backpacking quilt.The shipment arrived in 3 weeks packaged as a soft "pillow" about 10 inches square and 6 inches thick. The down was double wrapped in tough plastic and then contained in a cloth draw-string bag. I received slightly more than 1 pound of down. In summary, it worked well for my application. I think this down is a very good value, but that it is not quite actually 850 fill power. It does contain a percentage of small feathers, but they are all small, and the quills are very thin.I'm no expert on down. I've only previously handled high quality down from one other source, and that was top-quality 850+ fill power down from a well-known domestic USA supplier at 250% of the cost per pound of this down.I've attached photos of the product that I received. In the end, I judge that this down is not quite 850 fill power. My best guess, by comparing it to my retained sample and fill using the more expensive down, is that this down is more like about 700 to 750 fill power. As you can see from the photos, this down does include some small feathers that the more expensive down did not seem to have. I ended up using slightly more of this down to compensate for less loft.To measure out 1 ounce portions of this down, I set up my one-man ultralight tent in the front room. I zipped my self in the tent and use my hand to stuff this down into the inside of a 12-inch long piece of 1-inch diameter light-weight PVC plastic pipe. I then weighed the down-filled pipe on a little electronic scale until the weight was one ounce more than the tare weight of the plastic pipe. After filling the pipe with one ounce of down, we inserted one end of the pipe into a small opening that we left un-sewn in the end of the quilt baffle and pushed out the down into the quilt with the handle of a long screw driver. It was pretty easy. The floating down was easy to contain and gather up inside the little tent. We had enough down left to make me a nice small down-filled backpacking pillow.All in all I'm satisfied with this down. I rate it only 4 stars because of the lower loft and the small feathers it contains. Comparing the two sources of down by feeling the down in the finished quilts by rolling it between her fingers, through the exact same outer material, my wife could not tell which down was the more expensive USA-sourced down, and which was the Unite down. To her, both quilts feel to have about the same percentage of tiny but stiff quills.The seller was very good to work with, and very quickly answered my questions. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Decent Down, Around 650- 700 FP, But Still a Great Deal *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 7, 2018* This is decent down (around 650-700 FP in real world conditions) and a good deal considering the other options on Amazon. I filled half of a two person sleeping bag with it. I filled the other half with much-more-costly 850 FP down from Wilderness Logics, which seems to be the gold standard in DIY gear down, so I had something to side-by-side compare it to. It is definitely more towards 650 FP, I filled 9 long baffles with it and that figure was consistent. The grams of this down I ended up using in a baffle as a ratio to the grams of 850 FP I used in a baffle also leads to around 650 FP (47g/ 61g = 654 FP/ 850 FP). That being said $40 for a pound of 650 FP is a good deal.Important note: this down comes stuffed in a pillow. That is fine, but it confused me at first and I see it has confused other people as well.Since a review on here compared this to very high quality down, I should mention that there is a notable difference between the two. The 850 FP down has down clusters that are quarter to half dollar size, while this level of down has some quarter sized clusters with many nickel and dime sized clusters and some small feathers. That goes for all 700ish FP down and not just this stuff. This is 1/3 of the price of 850FP, so it's a great option, but I just wanted to make that distinction.The seller was very helpful. I was concerned because the tag on the pillow of down read "75% WDD" and thought I may have gotten a mis-ship. They assured me I could open the pillow and make sure the down was what I wanted. I would have taken a star off for the less than stated fill power, but their communication gets them a star back. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless for my purpose *by A***G on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 26, 2021* I ordered this for the great price, not expecting to receive the advertised fill power. What I DID expect to get was DOWN, not a down and feather mix. I’ve bought and used down of various fill powers several times, and I know there’ll be some feathers. However, I would need to build a down sorting station to use this stuff.There aren’t just a few feathers, they’re everywhere. I tried hand sorting it, and I didn’t even get an ounce of actual down (without feathers) after an hour of sorting. This was going to be used for a backpacking quilt, but it would destroy my fabric with quills coming out everywhere. So for now, and since I bought it, it’s been sitting in a ziploc bag on a shelf.If you’re making a pillow for home, or cushions, this stuff would work. Backpackers beware! This stuff isn’t for you. I’ll eventually get brave enough to try a different down seller on Amazon, but never this one. Until then, I’m happily paying $135 for a pound of REAL 850 FP down from Loose Goose Down Supply. They’re the least expensive, reputable dealer I’ve purchased from.
