There is always a good deal on Amazon
What is there to say really? Never pay full price for an XBL subscription. Go into your XBL account settings, disable the "autorenew" feature and never pay the full $59.99 for 1 year of XBL again. XBL is an incredible service and worth every penny in my opinion. If you still own your xbox 360 and an xbox one, you get 4 games per month (2 for each console). If you're not taking advantage of this feature, you really should get in the habit of downloading the new games each month. They are yours to keep as long as you download them during the promotional period. In addition, there are many games that go on sale with exclusive pricing for gold subscribers. Unless it is a big title that I feel the need to get my hands on from day one, you can often wait 2-3 months after a game's release and you're sure to see some heavily discounted games promotions. If you're not a gold subscriber - it is worth the discounted price for 12 months of service. If you're in need of a renewal, don't ever pay full price. There is always a good deal on Amazon. The card with the code arrives quickly and keep in mind the membership codes DO STACK. What I mean by that is, let's say you still have 3 months on our current subscription, the 12 month subscription code is added onto your remaining subscription, so your expiration will be pushed back 15 months. It does not override your current subscription, but adds to it, just in case anyone was wondering about that.

Foreign Gold Card: Microsoft XBox LIVE 12 Month Gold Membership
Normally I would not 'review' a Membership card but this one bears a closer look. Literally. Not because it did not work. On the contrary, it worked perfectly. It is because it is from, or for, another country. I find that funny because on this web page it says, "This item is not eligible for international shipping". Simple irony. Except for the X-Box logo, name, and the word 'GOLD' on the face of the paper package most everything else, that is in white and green, is NOT in English. There is a white overlay sticker on the section that has restrictions, directions, system requirements, etc.; also the added bar code sticker is in English. (The bar code and number were obscured by the reviewer.) I think it was important to mention since some of you may be getting them and may not want to use them for fear they won't work. The card worked as promised on my son's old X-Box 360. It has been about 4 days now and there have been no problems of any sort. So you can take a peek at the photos I've uploaded for your own amusement and be 99.9% assured that your foreign X-Box Gold card will work in spite of the foreign language. Aren't we just the bon vivant. So 5 Stars for the foreign Gold card that worked as promised even if they promised in another language! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update April 2016: Absolutely no problems in the past few months of use.

Best Deal
If you're looking for the best deal on Xbox Live then buy the 12 month. It is much cheaper than buying it by the month or 3 month period even if you stop playing for a month here and there. You also only have to buy it once a year so when you get back on to play after a few weeks of not playing Xbox then you don't have to buy another month. I used to pay by the 3 month period because it was less money at once but after realizing that I play at least an hour every week and that the 12 month was cheaper then buying the 3 month subscription 4 times, this is the only one I buy. At the time I bought the physical card because it was a little cheaper I believe which may not be the case now. Paying for the downloadable is simple and can have you playing in minutes after purchasing and receiving the email. I've searched around on Microsoft, Amazon, GameStop, Walmart, Best Buy, and other stores to find a cheaper 12 month subscription. The price is the same almost anywhere so if you have an Amazon gift card it makes purchasing on here that much more tempting.

Worked like a charm, but instructions lacking
I entered the code and it activated promptly. Only thing that could have been better from the product-side of things (not the seller) is that there could have been some instructions on where the code was located, and how to use it. I figured it out on my own, but I could see some people being unsure of what to do. For those interested, here what you do: 1. Open the perforated tab on the back, and then carefully open along the perforated edges up toward the top 2. You should now see a silver rectangle at the top; carefully scratch off the silver coating; may want to do this over a trash can as it can make a mess 3. On your XBOX 360, go to your System > Account Settings and redeem the 25-digit code for XBOX Live.

Best quality for on-demand TV/Movies
A buddy before said he had done the same thing and does not play any Xbox games but he and his wife just use it for HD movies/TV because of the quality. I now have to agree. Thus I purchase the 12 month Gold to continue to have access to Amazon and Netflix after the one month trial. I also have tested several on-demand streaming devices like Roku and PC-to-HDTV and so far nothing can beat Xbox's quality. I did make sure my Xbox is connected via a Cat 6 cable instead of WiFi but at first I used WiFi and still saw a better quality than my Roku HD and PC-to-HDTV. I do play Xbox games and greatly appreciate the two free games they give away each month to Gold members. And they are not cheap games. They are the full versions of high-end games.

Best price for the 12 month membership
Got this for a great price and it was my grandsons Golden prize gift at Christmas, he has been wanting to go live on his xbox for months! He did however find out his xbox did not have but 4 gigs of space so my daughter had to buy him another memory board for his xbox for him to be able to use this, so before you buy the membership be sure your xbox can handle it as his would not even download it. I had no idea they sold different xbox 360's without advising you that you are actually buying a game system that is supposedly a computer but has not memory....but yet you can buy one the has 500 times the memory or have to actually go purchase the extra memory space....Talk to someone before you purchase any game system they are way to complicated to me! My son in law purchased this and I would not have known any different Once they added the memory problem was solved and they love the Live Gold membership! :) Thanks for making this one of the very best Christmas presents my grandson got!

Looks sketchy but works once your current subscription expires
At first I was worried when I opened the package and the card was partially written in a Persian-looking language. I became more worried when I first attempted to use the card and received an error. However, after doing some research and having a bit of patience, I learned that the reason I was not able to redeem the code immediately was because the last time I added time to my subscription, I did it with a prepaid digital 12mo code as opposed to an auto-renewing credit card payment (the digital code was from Amazon; it was cheaper than the physical card at the time). It turns out that when you pay in this fashion Microsoft requires that the subscription expire before you can redeem a new card i.e. they will not stack and there is no option to renew. My subscription was set to expire March 7, so I decided to wait it out and see if the card would actually work then. On March 6 I received an automated email from Microsoft notifying me that my subscription had expired (maybe due to be a timezone discrepancy?) and all I had to do was follow the email link to extend my membership, click Redeem Code, and the code worked fine. As for maintaining the loyalty count on your membership (e.g. "member for 5 years"), I found some websites (including majornelson) that said to rest assured as having a gap in your membership will not reset your loyalty count. However, from the time I spent looking through other reviews to figure out what was wrong, I saw some that seemed to have less successful experiences than myself so I would at the least make sure you will be able to use the card within a month of ordering it in case it really doesn't work and you need to return it. The pictures are from after I opened it.
