Illuminate Aleppo Globe Beautiful Easy Fit Pendant With Unique Cut Out Pattern, Ceramic, Cream

These ceiling light shades are beautiful, I was most impressed. I bought two for each end of the hall, and the light and pattern they give if wonderful. Everyone who sees them wants them. Well done I am so pleased.

Pretty but smaller than expected

I would have expected to pay much more for these shades they are beautiful and a fabulous price.

The globe lampshade is very well made, with a cutout pattern which subtly reflects onto the walls and ceiling, depending on the size of the room where it is used. I have it hanging in my hall and visitors have remarked on the subtle shadowing giving a great effect on the plain walls and ceiling. Not knowing how durable and strong the ceramic globe is, I suggest handling it carefully, especially when trying to fit the shade. The globe only has an opening at the top and so the ring from the ceiling rose needs to be removed so that it will hold the supplied "metal spider" in place. The legs of the "spider" can be moved and so this is positioned onto the ceiling rose first. Then the globe has to be carefully installed over the "spider" ensuring the bent part of the legs slip into the three holes cut into the globe. I found this extremely frustrating and decided that the "spider" legs should be positioned in the globe first, then removed and then positioned on the ceiling rose. But more importantly, make sure you fitted the light bulb before placing the shade in place as there is no way of accessing the bulb once the shade is in place. I am really not looking forward to changing the bulb in the future. I would have preferred a hole in the bottom of the globe, just large enough for fingers to reach in, twist the bulb and be able to replace it with ease. Now, every time I need to replace the bulb I stand the chance of the shade slipping out of my hands and falling to the floor, possibly breaking or chipping pieces off the patterned cutouts. Overall, though, I am delighted with the globe shade.

If you like the Moroccan style, but don't like the strong colours a lot of Moorish designs use, then this shade is for you. It's similar in design to those cut-out metal shades you see in so many shops, but the plain white ceramic is simple and very effective. As you can see, I'm a bit of a fan, but I've had to dock one star for the disappointingly complex hanging arrangement: despite what it says, this is far from an easy fit, with non-standard "spider" legs which hold the shade to your ceiling cord, and not enough room in the bottom hole to replace the bulb without full disassembly. It's not impossible, but tricky enough to be frustrating - I've used a long life bulb, so hopefully won't have to take it apart anytime soon.
