Sunfish Dolly, Blue, Compact, Welded Steel, Floatable, Boat Dolly

Perfect size and works great to roll my sunfish in and out of the water. Easy to store too.

The dolly is a genius design. But I have to say it isn't as easy to roll in the sand as I had hoped. It's still better than what I had been doing which was 'wiggle' my Sunfish to the water's edge. Yep, the tires are awfully pungent, but made a great insect repellent. It arrived timely and was as described. Thanks!

Really good out of the box. I expected the bearings to rust (salt water) and had extras. But I didn't expect the center to twist and brake off in the sand. Use on only hard ground unless you're able to make repairs i.e. you can weld and trust your welds.

Just what we were looking for to use with our mini sunfish.

I could make one of these, but rather than spend the time working out the nuances, I figured it would be worth buying one that is advertised as ready to go. The dolly is certainly a great idea, and it is better than nothing, but here are some areas where it didn't meet my expectations, and left me to spend the R&D time that I thought I was paying for. First, the hook that came with mine is no good. It's not like the one in the picture. Rather, it's one of those big red-coated 99-cent hooks that you might buy from the hardware store and use to hang your bicycle from the ceiling. It doesn't hook onto the back of the boat in any form that I can tell, so I'm on my own to develop a hook that does work. Next is the size/height issue. The dolly needs to be small, and that's why they made it that way, but for me being around 6 feet tall, the ergonomics are tough. I have to bend over to keep the boat level, and this would not be the case if the dolly held the boat higher off of the ground. This, combined with the inadequate hook issue, make the dolly at least a 2-person operation on a boat ramp with any grade, and it seems like they all have some grade. Also, the included tires were directly from Harbor Freight, as was indicated by the stickers still on them. And the smell is as others have found, which is terrible. They were also flat, which disqualified the advertised "take it out of the box and use it" selling point. For the price, I'd rather have tires that cannot go flat and don't smell like a slow china death. Who needs more maintenance in life, especially from something like this? So in summary, don't let my review keep you from buying the tote, especially if you aren't a builder of things. But if you are on the fence about whether to buy one or build one, go with option 2 unless the price drops by half.
