for the uninitiated (like me), you have to hold the extension vertically then the springy bit drops out and you can then tighten the (square) end of the spring into the Dremel. Thread the other end of the spring back into the extension, the screw on the outer sleeve onto the Dremel and it should work - see pics. Hope this might help somebody

I assumed it would fit, not a chance. Measure the hole in rotary tool to the faction of a millimetre to be sure.
