Its primary advantage over a standard tangent galvanometer is that it produces a uniform magnetic field over a much larger volume, which leads to more accurate readings The Compass Box A small compass box is mounted at the midpoint between the two coils. Because the field is uniform there, slight shifts in the needle's position don't cause significant errors. Formula for Calculation The magnetic field $B$ at the midpoint between the two coils is calculated using the formula $$B = \left( rac{4}{5} ight)^{3/2} rac{\mu_0 n I}{R}$$ Where $n$ = Number of turns in each coil. $I$ = Current flowing through the coils. $R$ = Radius of the coils. $\mu_0$ = Permeability of free space ($4\pi imes 10^{-7} \, ext{T}\cdot ext{m/A}$).
