Note that the lower edge of the tamper is chamfered (rounded a bit) and some in the coffee world feel that its better for that lower edge to be a crisp 90° angle so that coffee around the edges of the circular tamper plate is fully depressed in the portafilter basket. The idea is that this would minimize the chance of channeling around the edges. Maybe too fussy of a point, I grant you.Aesthetically and feel-wise, this tamper's very nice.
