Be sure you choose Shure!
Cannot be more pleased with the results of this Shure podium mic. We bought the 12" neck version instead of the 18" as the longer one would likely be too close to the preacher with this particular pulpit. We purchased this to initially start with a live stream of the church service and did not have any sound system in place yet. There are other background noises going on during the service and this mic does a fantastic job of only picking up the speaker. Sounds great through the mixer and on YouTube. There's a more expensive Shure podium mic (costs 200+) and I debated whether that would be a better choice, but this one was less than half the cost and works very, very well.NOTE: This mic came with a Shure plastic mount, but it is definitely not a "shock mount". Do yourself a favor and also buy an Audio-Technica AT8646QM Microphone Shock-mount Plate. It's around $60 (also available on Amazon), but will isolate the mic from any finger tapping, page turning, (or pulpit pounding!) that may occur and make this mic that much better.

Awesome Podium Mic
Just added this mic to my church's smaller podium for non-clergy speakers. It received a thorough workout the weekend after receipt and it is amazing! The only problem was the bad habit that presenters have in pulling mics closer to their mouths - that is totally unnecessary with this mic. As a matter of fact I have an older Shure gooseneck on the pulpit and I will probably switch to this model since it is so effective. Great Job Shure!

Great reception!
Placed on pulpit in church! Picks up well with no location adjustment since installation, couple of months ago. Pristine sound on our live broadcast.

What you should know
Just received ours for a new podium microphone and it’s a bit bigger than anticipated. Total length from the tip of the mic to the back of the base is 2’. The gooseneck itself is 18”, but 12” of it is rigid, leaving the top and bottom 3” flexible. Each flexible part can bend to approximately 75 degrees, so any way to flex into an s-shape would be impossible. The fixed base does have a non-skid pad underneath and can be mounted on the mic side by two small holes where your screw-heads could slide in to. Base is approximately 6 1/2” by 4 1/2” at the widest part. The microphone itself has exceptional quality and clarity, and it has a 12’ XLR (3-pin) cable. This does require phantom power, although most modern mixing boards and/or amps come with some sort of phantom on board. You should know before you buy whether or not your setup has phantom power available. Although it may be ideal for many situations, we found this mic to be too big and not flexible enough to fit our needs. Hope this review helps you determine whether or not it fits yours.

The 18 inch mic is actually 23 inches long.
I got the 18 inch even though I saw reviews that said it was toooo long. They were correct. When you add in the base part of the mic it is actually 23 inches long (see photo). I'm 6'1" and it was poking into my nose and eyeballs when I plugged it into the lectern. I'm sending it back for the 12 inch version with I expect will actually be 17".This could be good for table top stands or very low lecterns.

Reliable Shure Product
This microphone will replace old microphones that no longer work. This is the first time the parish is using a Shure product, and they are investing properly.

Good while it lasted
Used this mic for just over 6 months approximately 5 hours per week and it has already died.
