Review: Corduroyโs ใทใชใผใบใฏๅคงๅฅฝใใงใใๅนณๆใชใใญในใใงๅญใฉใใ่ชญใฟใใใใฃใใงใใ Review: Now that it's fall, I was searching for a Halloween book that included some of the annual activities I do with my 2 1/2 year old daughter such as going to the pumpkin patch, raking leaves, decorating, and of course Trick or Treating, but that also didn't include the scarier aspects of Halloween like zombies and skeletons. This fit the bill perfectly and my daughter has been asking to read it everyday. In the story, Corduroy and his friends go the pumpkin patch together, rakes leaves, help a shop owner paint decorations, and talk about what they are going to be for Halloween. Corduroy goes shopping for his costume, being careful not to get costumes like his friends will have, and he decides to be a dinosaur. The day of his Halloween party, his friend Puppy comes over upset that his costume has ripped and Corduroy gives Puppy his own costume to help him feel better, though he now has no costume. He decides to take the tablecloth off and cut eye holes in it and be a ghost and he and his friends have a great time Trick or Treating. As I said, I love that this story focuses on the non-gory aspects of Halloween that are frightening for younger kids but also includes seasonal activities and Trick or Treating. I really love the moral behind the story of putting someone else's needs above your own and it really illustrates what a great friend Corduroy is to give up something he liked to help his friend. He also showcased his creativity in making a makeshift costume so he could still Trick or Treat. It's just a great book with a wonderful message. The illustrations are beautifully done and very colorful, bright, and engaging. While some may complain that this is not the "original Corduroy," to me it wasn't a big deal nor did it take away from the book or its message at all. Highly recommended book for this fall season!
