Mit dem Begriff "Hypercars" kann man eigentlich wenig anfangen, genauso wie mit der für das Rahmenprogramm der Blancpain-Series erfundenen Klasse der "Ultracars" - als würde die Bezeichnung "Supersportwagen" nicht ausreichen. Denn um nichts anderes geht es in diesem Buch, nämlich um die Spitzenmodelle unter den Ferrari Straßensportwagen vom 375 MM der 1950er Jahre bis zum aktuellen LaFerrari mit 963 PS.Winston Goodfellow beschreibt diese Fahrzeuge in acht Kapiteln, wobei die Entwicklung vom 288 GTO über den F 40, den F 50 und den Enzo bis zum LaFerrari den größten Raum einnimmt. Aus früheren Zeiten werden die Superamerica-Modelle, der 365 GTB/4 und die Berlinetta Boxer dokumentiert. Ein knapper Abriss über das Leben Enzo Ferraris und die Anfänge der italienischen Edelschmiede führen in die Thematik ein. Personenbezogene Einschübe z.B. über Pininfarina und Piero Ferrari sind interessante Ergänzungen, ebenso wie das am Endes des Buchs befindliche Literaturverzeichnis. Bemerkenswert ist, dass der Autor in seinen kompetenten Texten immer wieder den Bezug der Entwicklung der Straßensportwagen zu den Wurzeln Ferraris in der Rennwagentechnik herstellt. Der voluminöse Band ist mit 300 Fotografien teilweise im Großformat sehr gut illustriert; insoweit gefallen insbesondere die Aufnahmen aus den Werksanlagen in Maranello.Es gibt zweifellos bedeutendere Ferrari-Literatur, aber als attraktives Geschenk macht sich dieses repräsentative Buch allemal gut.
