Good start to this series
Open on the stage of reading are paranormal angels and demons story lines. I found this book after I read my last series and it was 1 that was suggested and I am so glad I was able to find this book. The story line is fascinating Brielle is coming into herself they all have different powers since the demons in angels came down And took over the world. So when her ceremony comes and if she's stepped into the circle is she shows that she has unique wings. She needs to make a decision then and when she does It becomes In a shoe. Angels and demons are fighting for her and it is so sad that she gets the spend part of her time with the archangel's and and fallen academy. With all of the she starts seeing what her powers can do and she is met with Lincoln and is gonna be her adviser and someone did make her angry yet she is wrong to him. With all this going on she has a lot of abilities that she doesn't know she has and what they all stand for as destroy goes on. She needs a lot of friends and yeah A lot things happen to her and The world.... I don't wanna get too much away but as the story progresses she learns what she is and what all her powers mean. She goes through a lot of things and finds out. When her gauntlet comes up what will happen ? Will Lincoln keep caring for her because she has the dark prince in her. What will become of her? With a great story line, and great characters this series will be one that I will love. So many characters that you will love and hate and how will this end

Fun, exciting, a little predictable
This is listed as a YA book but it feels more NA to me mostly because of the age of characters and the content. The main character is 18 at the start and it's a big day for her. She will go to a ceremony that tells her if she has angel or demon powers, which will decide which academy (basically supernatural college) she'll be attending for the next four years.Because she's demon marked already, whatever her power is, she will be claimed and owned by a demon. The same demon who owns her mother, because the firstborn child is part of the deal. But things don't go exactly as expected when Brielle takes her turn on the stage. Her fate is still sealed. There's nothing anyone can do about that, but as results come to light there might be some hope in her future after all.I really enjoyed this series as a quick read. I probably breeze through them in a few hours. I found it a little predictable in spots, especially in regards to the romance. But I loved most of the characters and the world building is really good so if you enjoy teenage supernatural academy books, you'll probably like this one.

dry interesting first book
I was snagged from the beginning.Brielle’s soul was bought by a demon who tricked her family into selling it to them in exchange for her father’s health. At 18 she is then tested to see what gifts she has been bestowed. She finds they are celestial and she must train at Fallen Academy with celestials all while the demons try to get her back.A lot happened in the first half of the book and then it showed down a bit. The ending has me wanting to jump into book 2.I was a fan of the characters but I wish we had more in Brie and her mother and brother. They kind of fall out of the story and it left a big hold because of the circumstances of them being seperated.I enjoyed the read and will be continuing into book 2.

Excellent First in Series!
This book was pretty awesome! There was tons of action, danger, magic, freaking ARCHANGELS!, and some great laughs thrown in for good measure. The premise behind the series, why the Fallen and Tainted Academies exist and how angels are kinda responsible for people getting supernatural powers, is really neat, original, and I totally love it.Our FMC, Brielle or Bri, is a feisty young woman. The angels have made it so that the powers 'gifted' to human children remain latent until approximately age 18, when they go to the Awakening. Until this time, no one knows what possible powers a youth may have, angel-blessed or demon-blessed. Bri is no exception. But the problem is, Bri's fate has already been determined, no matter her blessing, because she is enslaved. She must work through her gifts with her impending servitude hanging above her head.Along the way, she meets a few new friends that have her back, risks her life for her best friend and psuedo-sister, and loves to hate her master trainer, Lincoln. Their relationship is rocky, and she's pretty sure she wants to kill him regardless of how cute she thinks he is, and he is constantly pissing her off.Overall, this book was great! As in, I read it in one day, which I rarely do. Actually, less than a day because I had to finish a book before I started this one, and I didn't start this one until maybe halfway through the day. So, yeah. This one kind of sucked me in.I did check out a few reviews before I read it, as I tend to do especially with authors I'm unfamiliar with (this is my first by this author). The biggest complaint I noted from other people was that Bri starts the book kind of "badass-y" but about halfway through she cries a lot and relies on a guy. I think that is totally unfair and here's why.First off, she's a little teary in the very first chapter, not all-out bawling but still. She's showing emotion at an emotional time for her. It makes sense. So its not like it starts randomly; her showing emotions, from sadness and anger to sarcasm and humor, are throughout the story, like any well-written character should. I don't know about you, but I don't want to read a flat, emotionless character.Secondly, as a reader you have to consider her age (hello it starts with her barely 18) and the types of traumatic events that are taking place in her young life. Kinda badass and snarky only gets you so far when you are bombarded by bad news. Being upset that your life may end up your worst possible nightmare is acceptable in my book. What were you doing at 18? Not wondering if you might be demon-blessed or have to kill someone I'd wager. I think her upset is completely understandable. So, in short, I think her emotions make her more relatable as a character. She's going through some major life-changing stuff here. Having a breakdown or two is definitely acceptable. The more important thing is that she gets her butt back up and continues on and fights. It's not like she's sitting in a corner bawling waiting for a man to save her. She's not. She's showing the same emotions that any young woman would. That's called writing a relatable character, and that's a good thing.I definitely recommend this book. And I'm really looking forward to how the series plays out. Now to just wait patiently for the next book.

Good book, worth the read, but too many errors and not enough detail.
This is a good book, but it has a lot of story and grammatical flaws that hold it back. Which is a shame, because the characters, world, and potential is the best I've read in a while. The main characters are awesome, the romance is swoon-worthy, the setting and premise is one of the most interesting takes on angels vs demons I've ever seen; placing it in a dystopian-ish setting was just a stroke of genius. However, the number of grammatical flaws detracts from the reading, and that isn't something I say often. I can see in the acknowledgments that the author has hired an editor and a proofreader, which I find incredible. As an editor myself, these are not just small errors I'm picking up on: poorly constructed commas, incorrectly punctuated dialogue, and other glaring errors are awfully common. This is a good example of choose your editors carefully. And, in fact, I'm going to go out on a limb and say choose your proofreaders carefully, because the sentence flow and style is flawless, making think the initial editing was done well.In terms of the story, it rushed over too many sections for my personal tastes. I wanted to see her classroom progression and things. But at the same time, I understand why the author chose to skip time so often. I think putting in place something along the lines of Harry Potter would have been a better strategy. That way you can skip time and have the awesome details. I also think this would have helped the romance progress a little more smoothly. In conclusion, a good book, and definitely worth the read, but too many errors and not enough detail for my liking. However, I will be buying and reading the second book, because the story and premise really are amazing! Here's to hoping the editing was done better in the following books.

Content not what I expected
The fast-paced action and flowing writing style kept me turning the pages, but I became uncomfortable with the disparity between this style - seemingly aimed at younger teens - and the increased swearing, violence and strong sexual references. Additionally, I was concerned with the students apparently having relationships with their teachers (the lines were blurred around whether these angels were teachers or peers) - especially when the instructors were discussing a student's boobs at a party. That was creepy. The author tries to get around this by making the characters 18 years old.I wasn't convinced the author knew her own backstory, indeed I finished with more knowledge of the characters' bikini-shopping and sexual preferences (varied) than the war at the centre of the plot, as it seemed to disintegrate into Brielle's obsession to be 'de-flowered'. Lucifer, the Creator, and angels are clear characters, but Brielle doesn't seem to 'get' the concept of religion - after the most powerful angel has just told her there's more than one road to the Creator (but only one to Lucifer?). I didn't understand the assumption that the Fallen Academy students are rich, nor who went to which academy, as there seemed to be demon-linked kids there, too. I was constantly reminded of other stories ('the wand...I mean weapon...chooses you) and of course there was the cliché gay BF.This story seems to have developed into a fast-paced, popular, original, well-written series but I'm not invested enough in the characters to read on (NB I love YA but I'm older than the target audience)!

!
I really enjoyed this book, I read it all in one sitting.I enjoyed the banter between the characters and Bri’s strong personality. She reminded me a little of Rose Hathaway from the Vampire Academy Series. The first half of the book had me hooked. The second half did have a teen cliche feel to it, but I still enjoyed it either way.Book 2 has already been downloaded :)Edit****I have just finished all the books, and was hooked. Literally couldn’t put them down. The characters and the story develops more through each book and I would definitely recommend carrying on with the series.

Poorly constructed world that stopped me reading it
Firstly a disclaimer- I didn’t finish the book. This book is a relatively stereotypical teen academy book, with an interesting premise. However, as someone who rates world building and consistency/logic, the ridiculousness of the world building had me putting the book down. There is meant to be a war between the demons and angels, with both using talented humans. But this never really makes sense with the character’s world. It’s an overlay that the author put in without thinking how it would change things day to day, how the opponents would react and what it really means to be at war. Idiocy like a key general for the angels living in a trailer at the school. The poor writing got to me, so I stopped reading.

WOW! Im so glad I found this series
Absolutely love this series. You know that feeling when you read a chapter of a book and then realise that you are totally 'done for'? Your plans for an early bed are blown away because you wont be able to put this book down until its finished and all that is left is to pray you have the restraint not to download book 2 immediately and have to function with zero sleep the next day. This is one of 'those' series. UNPUTDOWNABLE (new word for the dictionary there). Its an epic tale that has romance, the supernatural, comedy and action galore. Brilliant.......... On to book 2 for me :-)
