You put them on the edge of your plate, and they fall to the floor en route to the kitchen. These are very well-balanced and look fabulous on the table. We bought these after using them in a lovely AirBnB rental. We love the modern look of the black finish. The finish can wear around the edges, but not as badly as other reviewers indicate. Perhaps it is because we don't have a dishwasher! We wash them by hand. One downside is guests have mistakenly thrown them away because they are accustomed to seeing the black plasticware we use for large parties. I bought an extra setting when these were on sale to complete my set.
