Update .... still rocks! *by P***N on Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2018* Update after a year of use: This thing is an animal. Have been running it in the cabin for a year now after blowing out my old 1200W Peak inverter. This thing is a strong performer. Runs an AC unit, microwave, small fridge, lights, power tools, vacuum .... you name it. Has enough power to run the AC, fridge, & microwave all at the same time. I have 400W of solar panels feeding 2 large (8D24) batteries. This inverter is the only power source I need. Haven't needed the generator since installing it. 5 stars all the way.I needed a new inverter for my off grid cabin project. I had an older 1200W inverter and I smoked it. I clearly needed more power.So I worked on sourcing a new 2000W unit and so far, it looks like a winner. I am not sure if I need pure sine or not (there is so much really bad information out there on modified vs pure sine - most people and even 'experts' just don't get it). So I wanted to try a beefy modified sine inverter first and see how it goes. This unit was a really good price. It's about 3 times the size of the old one with 3 variable speed cooling fans. Size does matter as heat kills and large heat sinks with multiple fans remove heat. I need to get some longevity on this unit yet but I did some basic tests and here are the results:First test, 1000W of light (2 500W shop lights) .... Pass (doesn't even get warm)2nd test, chop saw cutting wood ..... Pass3rd test, 500W load and then the chop saw, this one failed at first, but it was likely not enough battery for that much load (probably 180A or more needed) so I recharged the battery and added a second one in parallel.3rd test with battery boost ..... PASS! It takes a lot to spin up the saw and cut wood with an extra 500W load. This thing rocks. I can't wait to install it.I didn't take any voltage readings but the lights stayed bright and the saw ran smooth with plenty of power so the voltage was no doubt staying up fine. The reason I didn't take any readings is most DMM's can not measure modified AC properly. AC measurements are complex, they are saying what AC voltage is the equivalent to the same level of DC. They use an RMS rating rather than a simple average. Most DMM's do some simple math (.707 x Peak Voltage), this only works if the AC is a sine wave, they will have a large error measuring any other AC. So unless your DMM has True RMS, don't bother. So when you see reviews complaining of low voltage on inverters ..... yea, it's usually the operator at fault.I did take a couple other measurements though.Current draw with the switch off: 4mA (very good, I've seen much higher)Current draw at idle (on, no AC load): 400mA (also very good, often it's in excess of 1A for inverters this size)More testing to come but so far I am impressed, I will be buying a couple more of these units if it holds up. Very happy.Edit:I should add what another reviewer mentioned. The cables are short and a little light. Probably good for about 1000W but they're short so they squeak by. My plan is to replace them with a couple of battery cables from the auto store. These will still be good for jumping the 2 batteries together though.Unit is installed and running in the cabin now and so far, no issues, runs everything we plug in. Lights, coffee pot, fan, and a little fridge .... no problem. More appliances to come. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars The Cables That Come With This Are Short and Not Very Thick *by C***N on Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2018* Works fine right out of the box to run my flat screen TV/DVD combo (55 Watt AC load), but you'll probably need to buy more robust cables. The supplied cables are only 16 inches long so you are very constrained as to where you can place the inverter relative to the battery. Also the ring connectors on the cables are stamped 80A (80 Amps, about 4-gauge wire), which is good enough for an 800 Watt AC load but will not handle the DC current draw from a 12 Volt battery to supply the rated 2000 Watt AC continuous load.
