Expensive for the size and hard as a brick, but don't be concerned!
If you are going to need this for baking, I suggest you give yourself time since you won't be able to just scoop this out of the bag when you get it.Many reviews shared that the sugar comes hard. They are not lying! I purchased this product to use in water kefir since I don't like the overpowering taste of liquid molasses. This is my second box and both came hard. The good thing is the box tells you how to make the sugar soft, so they know the deal. Fortunately, I have a clear brown sugar canister that has a terracotta disk that's stored in the cover. A few hours after putting the literal brick inside that canister, the sugar started to soften. The next day, I was able to scoop out what I needed without issue. The sugar is not very sweet, but it has a very nice flavor compared to store bought brown sugar. Though I purchased this for water Kefir, it came just in time for me to try it in some homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Excellent flavor
Excellent flavor. It’s a little pricey; but well worth having in the baking cabinet. It’s addition to coffee is a delicious treat.

Hard as a rock!
I am sure the quality of this sugar is phenomenal, but it was hard as a rock and unusable. I followed directions on how to soften it, but this did not work. I found the same product at Fresh Market, and it was very firm, but pliable when I kneaded the package, which was not the case in the product from Amazon. I would suggest looking for this product in a store so you can check the usability because I was not able to return this product to Amazon.

More than augar
A/ A retrospective overview of my localisationI live in the Caribbeans in the FWI ,where the economy is mainly based on sugar ,rhum and bananas. But no use is needed to be an inhabitant of the country to understand these economies are politicized, subsidized (bananas) , badly processed (sugar cane) :it's a colony that is slowly depopulating. In this island ,for a long time,I heard that sugar browness is due to dirtiness.I suspected a negrophobic background to this assertionthat I'm going to smash to piecesThough the same abberations were repeated by the ancients. And with this malevolent and contagious beliefs , our sugar turns whiter and whiter, and people become more and more sick with cancers ,diabetes, CVA, accidents, pandemies, and crimes, underperforming at school , underperforming everywhere ,decadence...Whereas the system carries on to promote this local sugar as the best of the world. As we live on an island they think we all are inter-idiot ,And This is specially serious when the french are convinced to nombrilize the finest f -goods ,the best ideas in the world.....But for me, all theirs efforts are incantations and enchantments. They rather need a real therapy. So I decide to reconsider this dangerous and malevolent idea since I show a particular distrust against everything that come from the French, and I go for the quest of black sugar.Indeed the very regressive society I live in conveys a programmed self -hatred campaign by using the word "noir" wrongly for speaking of their problems (linguistical negrophobia) though there's no colour anywhere ex : series noire, journée noire, bête noire...A permanent program of denegation ,devalorization and despise of black word, black people, except coffee, chocolate (though I heard about white chocolate) but if they were able ,they would try to make the coffee white as well. The french astrophysicists admit hypocritically that dark matter and dark energy exist but they don't translate "dark" as they should by the word "sombre" in french but they prefer the word "noir" to mean the absence of light in the matter and the energy that exceed their understanding ,So a problem for them. This is the proof that these people are linguistically, spiritually, intellectually poor ..I found Amazon.com as I was a student in English, but ignorance was doomed to be permanent til I found what I was looking for.I made searches on sugar exclusively in English language as I knows the informations in french are deformed. What surprising I was when I found different categories of brown sugar in the english Wikipedia and that I didn't even suspect the existence ,and does not exist in the french wikipedia. After comparison ,I find the sugar produced in my country is unclassified ,so much it's look likes a treated harshly sugar even if its apparence leads to think a very little bit to the "demerrara" category ,Despite of its designation ("roux" sugar but the translation is brown),It is so pale , inconsistent and poor that I prefer saying it is unclassifiable. Therefore I firstly bought the classical dark brown sugar. It was good but I didn't found it darker enough,So I start looking for a darker sugar and I found the closest of my imagination : Dark muscovadoBeing a french speaking afro-descendant ,I know the connection that exists between sugar cane and my enslaved ancestors brought in the plantation of sugarcane, this is the reason why I think there exists almost a link of filiation between sugar and my afro-descendancy.So it is with a delicate attention I would like to express my gratitude toward the seller to make this treasure arrive in a timely manner til my home.Thank you for globalized economy.B/ The product itselfI waited 2 months to buy that product because I don't earn enough money since I dramatically stopped my English studies because of personal problems,so I looked forward to get it and taste it.When the package arrived , I found it was so carefully packed and the sugar looks like so compact and precious inside,I almost did not dare to open a bag to take a very small quantity to taste it.In my imagination I could see a juicy syrup in the middle but instead ,I found big chips of what that let me think to chips of a good black chocolate what is was a better surprise for me.But it was not chocolate. When I put a few on the end of my tongue,I felt the power of that product spreading through all over my body , and a warmth irradiated me.I remembered the B vitamins and minerals contained in the molasses,I thought about the folate inside, an element that repairs DNA.And I think that product is a concentration of energy,Consequently ,I consider it from another viewpoint.C/ Black sugar cocainizationDark muscovado smells wonderfully good. You must to distinguish between sugar and crystal of sugar.Like crack is the crystallized residue of cocaine (I never tasted this and I don't intend).COS is the more commonly consumed. This is important to make the distinction because COS is the residue of sugar,This is saccharine and it has a poor nutritional value.,So bad sugar.D M is meltingly soft as well and you can feel its effects, what's give it a widely deserved title of : superfoodwhereas the other sugars are crunchy because of the crystals and tasteless .With the COS ,you have to mix in it for a long time and you need to add a large amount of it to sweeten your beverage ,Whereas with the D M two small spoons are enough.I wish I could get rich with that rich sugar.Highly recommended. Thanks amazon.com, without you I would be carry on eating poison.

Good but too small
The taste was really sweet and good. In terms of convenience I had to do a lot of work when I got it it was hard as a rock and I had to wet it and microwave it and shank it with a spoon to get it to break up and crumble it with by hand for over 40 minutes or more so it was not easy to use and it was not convenient at all but once I got it all together the product does work but I don't think I would purchase again because the convenience just wasn't there for me. Also I also thought it was too small of a box. But the product works and it is good but I just don't think this was worth my money personally. So I rated it four stars because it was just too hard to use even though it works and The taste is good.
