The exotic animal vet told me that to take all seeds like nutra berries away and just give them pellets, this is called cold turkey. But, keep very close eye on their droppings that they stay formed and not runny. I did give them their veggies as well. This is day 3 and so far so good. They are pooping well :o). But I also gave them that Harrison's super fine high potency food. They seem to like the smaller pellets tho. Just be very careful cuz a parakeet can starve to death in like 48 hours. I wouldn't do it unless you are home all day and don't have a job. **Q: What is in this?** A: This is a concentrated nutritional powder for birds. It is wonder for birds that have been ill or have been suffering from malnutrition. It also helps during molting. I give this to my budgies 1 week every month as a nutritional boost. **Q: Is this pellet or oat meal can I trow this in there seed mix or add pellets.** A: It is a finely crushed hard meal type consistency. I feed it alone or mix it with another mash type food, but it can be easily added to any other foods. Bread made him wheeze. Despite the fact I bought him organic fruits and veggies and washed them thoroughly before giving them to him, something was making him violently ill (he was vomiting every night uncontrollably.) After talking to a vet and being advised due to my bird's age and condition, he probably wouldn't survive a round of medication, I resigned myself to making these final days as comfortable as possible. He seemed to be less violently ill if I kept him on a bland diet of trusted seeds, egg-biscuits, oatmeal, and vitamin water, so that's what we've been doing for the past couple months (yep, months.) I figured that since the end hasn't been as near as it seemed, I needed to get him some better nutrition and ran across Harrison's High potency mash. I got it earlier this week and this is a flippin' miracle product. When he turned his nose up at it, I mixed it equally with his normal Volkman egg food and he devoured it. I also offered Harrison bird bread (which he loves and has not caused him to wheeze. Yay!) Overnight the vomiting stopped. His eyes are bright. He's put on weight. His feathers and beak look better. And he got his personality back. Tonight, he looked me straight in the eye and began trying out some new words. They didn't eat it. It is like powder. Then I tried sprinkling some on the regular seeds and they did eat that. I'm sad that it only lasted about a week due to me not storing it right I guess. It began to smell sour so I threw almost the whole bag out. I read in comments that 1 person put it in fridge then another said no, it stayed fresh on a shelf in the pantry for a year and with my set up, leaving it out of the fridge worked best, but the food didn't last long. I think it's still a good purchase for a large bag and healthy for the birds so it's a 5 star from me. I'm learning.
