Pentel Mechanical Pencil, Graph 1000 for Pro, for Draft, 0.3mm (PG1003)

Love this pencil. Very fine tip lead 0.3, just what I wanted. Feels great in my hand. I have very small hands. Being a female with minor arthritis, I was concerned about the weight and comfort of it as I drew with it. Has not been a problem. It's very comfortable. I almost bought a much more expensive pencil thinking it might be better but I'm so glad I went with this one instead. I'm very pleased and would highly recommend. For the price I believe it is well worth it and would definitely buy again. FYI I am a watercolor artist and use this pencil mostly for making line drawings prior to painting. Leaves nice lines that can be seen but are easily obscured by the watercolor paint. Love this pencil.

Ok, I will try to keep this review from dragging out, but anybody that normally reads my reviews will know that never really happens. I’m gonna start this by saying, yes I am giving this mech a full 5 stars. This pencil punches way above its weight class. And when you see the price I paid was a sale price of 57% off, equaling out to a total of 8.57 for a Pentel, it’s obvious that this was a strait steal. Now this mech has been in production for well over a decade with no changes made to its build. And after a thorough multi hour test drive and months of use, I can easily tell why it never needed an upgrade through the years. So let’s get to the technical aspects so you will have a complete rundown of any hits and misses this may have for personal preference and/or issues. Now I have heard a few people claiming that this has an alloy body. That is false. The body is in fact plastic. However, it does have a metal sleeve under the rubber grip to give it a more rigid feel. Now when I seen this mech I figured the grip on this mech was hard plastic, but was surprised that cool looking texture design is a very nice soft grip rubber. The transition tip is another nice addition seeing as how they use the tubular design. Something to note here, is the needle tip itself is one of the longest I have ever seen on a mech, and I love when Mechs have longer needles. This one extends out over a quarter of an inch, making it a breeze to get that fine detail position on paper. And as usual, Pentel made that needle tip very precise. The lead fits very snug with no excessive play. So you won’t have to worry about lead breakage or chattering. The push clutch feels very firm and strong. And since it has a brass 3 jaw clutch, you won’t have an issue with feed and brake. Lead extrusion equals out to around 0.4 to 0.5 per click, so getting a fine tuned length for personal preference is easy. The cap does have a hardness scale window so you can set it to the type of lead being used at any given time. The choices being “HB-B-3H-2H-H-F”. A lot more choices than most other Mechs will add, though I personally never use that function on my Mechs. Now this pencil comes in a “0.3/0.4/0.5/0.7/0.9” sizes. So buying this in your favorite is nice. I know everybody has a size they feel is more comfortable using. For me personally, it’s a 0.3 or a 0.5 . Something to add here, is the black paint on this mech is a nice satin black. Not that cheap looking shiny black. And even though the weight on this mech is a light 0.39oz/11grams, don’t let that fool you. Like I said earlier, this mech punches way above its weight class. All this technical talk aside, this pencil feels like a precision tool in your hand. It may not have the weight of a Rotring, or the stature of a Koh-I-Noor, but it definitely feels as good. Listen, I gotta be honest here. This pencil feels as good as a 20 to 40 dollar mech. And with that 8 dollar price tag, you would be a fool if you didn’t jump on at least one of these. Maybe even the whole set of sizes. But this is just my opinion as a collector. On a side note, don’t listen to some of these reviews complaining about how hard it is to find replacement erasers. You shouldn’t be using the built in erasers on Mechs anyway. Grow up and buy a separate eraser like the Tombow Mono eraser. I know, once again my review turned into another long winded praise, but I just want people to know what they will get. And not just a single line where somebody says “I like it a lot”. So I hope this review helps some of you out trying to decide if this is the right mech for you. If so, mark this as helpful. Thanks!

This pencil has become my prized possession. It’s a bad day whenever I forget it at home when I need it :( I am a stationary lover and have always gravitated towards the thinner writing options (0.5 or 0.3). I have tried almost every lead pencil under the sun, including the the fancier ones like the tombow shaker pencils or kurutoga, and pretty much every mechanical pencil you can find in a regular store. If you know it, I’ve probably owned it. This simple design is hands down the best. With 0.3 lead, my personal choice, you tend to have a lot of jams in mechanical pencils but with this one, A SOLUTION. A thin piece of metal, that is attached the the eraser on the inside, that can push through the tip of the pencil to clear any jams. AMAZING! The weight is a good middle ground, and it is a tiny bit too heavy which makes mindlessly twirling it very fun. The erasers are replaceable, but I avoid it because the metal “jam remover” wire will bend when trying to push into a new eraser. For my preferences the finger grip is really comfortable, but you should keep in my that it is a textured grip design, not cushioned.Overall it may be a little pricy for one pencil, but it is well worth it as long as you don’t loose it

I read other peoples complaints and many of the complaints are silly, for example one person says that it feels like a cheap plastic pencil. I just got mine several days ago and I don't think it feels like cheap plastic. This is an all metal pencil, the only parts that are plastic is the tip were the chuck is located at and the end where the eraser is, there is rubber or plastic surrounding the metal casing so it will be easier to grip the pencil. You can unscrew the end to check on the lead, what I didn't like about this pencil is that I had to spend some time trying to figure out why the lead wasn't feeding. My dad told me that, when the lead is almost gone ( the size of your nail ) it won't feed properly, he says pull out the lead and throw it away. It seems to me that the pencil went through some type of quality control and they were testing the pencil before it left the factory. The point is, that I spent some time trying to figure the pencil out, but once I figured out the pencil, it wrote great and the leads were really strong. The leads did not snap on me like other people protested. I liked these pencils so much that I ordered 3 of them, one for each back pack and one for my desk.P.S. for those of you that don't know, you do not write with these as a regular wooden pencil. You only apply enough pressure on the paper to get the lead to write.

I’ve tried a lot of mechanical pencils for sketching and I really like this one. I like how light it is but still feels very sturdy in your hands. A overall good pencil to have in a collection.

When I was around 10 years old my dad, who was an architect, gave me this mechanical pencil in 0.7mm size. The pencil got me through elementary school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate degrees and 25+ years later I am surprised that I still have this pencil to this day and have not lost it. The brand and model labeling rubbed off early on and I could never find what maker/model this pencil is. Throughout all these years I have tried numerous other pencils, some of which were quite expensive like some from rOtring. Although some are really nice, I kept going back to this Pentel that I received from my dad, due to comfort, build, and style. I always wished I could order more of these but could never find out who made them or if they were still made.One day browsing youtube, I saw a guy reviewing the Pentel Graph 1000 for Pro and I was like, holy crap, that's the exact mechanical pencil that I love. After doing some more research, it was an exact match to the one that my dad gave me, so luckily Amazon carried some and ordered a few in. Comparing the new models to my old one that dated 25+ years ago, they are nearly identical (only differences I could see is the sheen of black is now a bit more matte). After close inspection of my original and the new one, I can say that the quality and feel are exactly the same. I was so happy I found out that Pentel still makes these so many years later and I was able to get a new set.Pros:- 4mm tip.- Construction is solid with brass front cap, metal/rubber grip, really solid plastic body, metal/brass mechanism.- Weight is quite light and pencil is perfectly balanced and very comfortable.- Durability: well I have had my original for 25+ years and although it is beat up and I have lost the clip and the top cap, it still works. Probably has taken 100's of drops throughout all these years and never had issues.Cons:- Absolutely none. Like I said above, I have tried a vast variety of other mechanical pencils out there, including some expensive ones, and I find the Pentel Graph 1000 to be the best out of all of them.

This is my first Pentel mechanical pencil. After a lot of consideration chose this over graphgear. Everything about this pencil feels perfect for me - the balance, weight, grip and precision. Effortless to write or draw with it. A well designed and well built product. Love it.
