I am 76 and replacing old deck boards going down to my dock . Was on my hands and knees removing screws and nails to get the boards up. Terrible on my back. This tool is the real deal. I can take up more of my composite decking in an hour than I could in 6 hours with a crowbar. So far I have removed about 100 boards and have not broken one of them. My composite decking is held to the deck framing with 2 1/2 inch deck screws and this tool enables me to remove the boards even though I can’t remove the screws. It’s an incredible, well built, well designed tool. I’m so grateful I wasn’t too cheap to pass it by.

Duckbill Deck Wrecker is one of amazing tools I've ever purchased for my D.I.Y projects. After reading a lot of reviews of "deck wrecker" tools with various brands on several web sites, I decided to go with Duckbill Deck Wrecker: a lot of good reviews vs a very small number of "bad" reviews, plus that its price is reasonable if compares to other similar tools. I used it to remove my old deck boards 32 ft x 8 ft. Because I used screws, not nails for my old deck. Therefore taking out of all screws is a really time consuming task & it looks a "mission impossible" to me because of damaged & worn screw heads (I did even try to use screw extractor costs over $30.00, but it didn't work at all). If I keep doing "traditional way" in 1 or 2 hours a day, it may take weeks to complete. With Duckbill Deck Wrecker, within two hours I did remove completely all deck boards. I'm not a fast person & I work a little bit slowly in order to avoid damaging all my joists. Therefore if someone does faster, my old deck boards can be completely removed within 1 hour or so.In my way, in order to use Duckbill Deck Wrecker, I did remove my first line of deck board: I think you can choose any line that is easy to do. It doesn't matter it should be the 1st line or last line or in the middle. The purpose is that we have a space to place Duckbill Deck Wrecker under a deck board to remove.I hope my Duckbill Deck Wrecker will last for long time (after serving my project, it will be used for 3 or 5 decking project of my relatives & friends).

This option beats the alternatives with the longer tines that let it get all the way under the board, lifting it without splitting it and getting all the way to the screws on the other side as the opening. My deck planks were screwed down, and this tool was able to pull them up. I usually have to make two passes but they come up letting the tool do the work, without much effort on my part.

I have an above ground pool with a deck built completely around it. After 23 years, it was time to dismantle the deck and pool. I used 3 1/2 inch twisted galvanized deck nails to put the deck together and used all 2x6 treated lumber. I was hoping to pry up the decking boards to repurpose them for some shelving to dry gourds that we grow for purple Martin houses and other crafts. I found out quickly that a heavy hammer and large wrecking bar was not going to work so I started doing some Internet research to figure out how to get those nails loose. I came across a tool called a crescent nail puller and after much searching, found one at Menards. The tool worked as advertised but still took a lot of effort and all of my 235 lbs. prying to get the nails up. I had about 1600 nails to remove and figured I would stroke before I got all the nails up so it was back to the Internet where I came across several deck wreckers. They were no where to be found locally in the big box hardware stores or even at several tool rentals stores that I called. At $64, including shipping, I decided to order the Duckbill deck wreckers off Amazon.com When it arrived, I was impressed with the quality and the heavy molded handle and couldn't wait to test it out. Here is what they don't mention in their YouTube videos. They must be pulling up boards with 8D or 12D common nails in order for the boards to come up so easily. More times then not, I found the decking nails to stay in place as I carefully worked the boards up, many times splitting the wood . Then I would have to use the crow bar to remove the remaining nails before I could use the deck wrecker on the next board. The nails had rusted and became one with the wood. There is another deck wrecker that has hammer claws on the two pry bars but it cost twice as much as this one. The deck wrecker in conjunction with the crescent nail puller made the job easier but far from the quick removal shown in their tutorial videos so if you have an old deck with the galvanized twisted deck nails, plan for a big job if you are doing it by yourself. If I didn't want to repurpose the boards, I might have saved a lot of time by wrapping a towing chain around each section of the deck and letting my four wheel drive do most of the labor ;)

If you're tackling a deck teardown, do yourself a favor and buy this tool. I bought this to tear down an old deck, and it exceeded expectations. The design provides incredible leverage to pull up boards quickly without destroying everything in sight or wrecking your back. Solid build, easy to use, and saved me hours of frustration. Highly recommend!

Works like champ! Probably the most expensive of the deck demolition tools on offer, after considerable analysis, price shopping & hemming & hawing I decided to just pony up the big bucks. Got a say it worked great. Good workout too! Especially since every 2 X 6 was triple screwed down!

Having the right tool makes the job that much easier. If you are wrecking a deck put together with nails, this is a great tool to have. I took apart a 375 sq ft 2x4 deck in less than 3 hours. The boards were all in good shape so there was no fooling around once you get started. It provides great grip and terrific leverage.
