He likes to pull on the lifting cable. But he figured out how to run the crane quickly. I read other suggestions to weigh down the base, which is a great idea. I clamped my base onto a plastic, 4 wheel moving dolly so it is more stable AND movable. The only downside is that by raising the crane base up about three to four inches, the crane cable is too short to reach the floor. I'm guessing one could add some cord to it, but haven't tried that yet. Great product tho and the adults have as much, if not more, fun as the kids do. All functions worked fine on my crane. I did take a Sharpie and marked the 'stops' (in/out on the crane arm) and the main tower's rotational stops (they don't want it to go completely around due to control arm wiring). China?** A: More than likely **Q: The remote control has two buttons, but only the R button does anything. R button makes the basket go up and down, but what does the L button do?** A: I had a similar problem and figured out that 1) high capacity rechargeable batteries are bigger than normal and don't fit well so that good connections are not guaranteed, and 2) there are different circuits in the battery compartment so some functions will work even if not all connections are solid. I held the stick over and stuck scissors between each battery and the connector until it started working to find the problem spot. Then I just shoved the battery hard against the connector until it worked by itself. **Q: Could a 4 year old boy with an older brother manage the remote, functions, etc?** A: I bought this for my son about a month after his 4th birthday and he was able to manage the remote right away. He's an only child and has autism; he has trouble following directions most of the time, but this was no problem at all! And a year later, he still loves this crane **Q: How would rate the durability of this toy?** A: Its still standing. My son does not play with it very much untill I play along side with him. He is mind full of the crane meaning it is not as durable as one would hope. My son was amazed to see it - the size - and the remote control are really impressive. Was not difficult to put together. The remote is a little quirky - the directional buttons do not always move the crane the way you plan - but my friend year old just presses all the buttons until it goes the way he wants so it works out. The plastic is a little fragile seeming. Not the most sturdy toy ever-but so far it’s been fine.
