All the songs you know and didn't know
The three volumes I purchased all at once are excellent. While they are paperback, they seem to be more solidly put together than some large volumes or so-called fake books, which don't hold together very well. Songs included are all in alphabetical order with an index as well. Large pages with easy to read printing make them easy to use and a great addition to the American songs that paint a musical picture of the great songs from Broadway, Tin Pan Alley and the Big Band Era. Most of the songs are well known, but there are others I've never heard of, especially in the jazz volume. The three books will provide hours and hours of playing old favorites and introducing other songs otherwise unknown to me. I will treasure these volumes and give them a permanent place near my piano. They will be used.

Great selection of songs
I would love to play these songs and others in this series for older folks who remember these songs well. They are classics! Not hard to play and have lyrics.

Let's Hear It For " The Great American Songbook !"
Whenever one is fortunate enough to travel to Europe or Japan, they are generally treated to the most spectacular music of The Twentieth Century, popularly known as " The Great American Songbook !" Sadly however, it is next to impossible to hear this great American music, on American radio stations ! This book makes a fine attempt to rectify that unhappy situation .

Great tunes, but not really ideal for guitar
Great selection of tunes, but definitely more for piano. The guitar chord diagrams don't have much logic to them, which is particularly problematic as these tunes use complex jazz chords. Omitting the diagrams (which, admittedly, can be done my simply ignoring them) and leaving the voicings up to the player would be much more useful and pleasing to look at on the page. Printing chord diagrams that often have no logical relation with each other and tend to favor open voicings whenever possible is just silly, and although it surely isn't, it certainly makes me feel like I'm doing way more work than I would if presented with a simple Realbook-style chart.

Four Stars
Nice book although the print is rather small. Hardcover would be easier for standing upright while playing piano.

Good Selections, Great Value
This volume has a large selection of songs with enough to satisfy almost any taste in American music. Although I cannot sight read, the sheet music provides me with enough information to check the melodies that I pick out by ear, and, of course, on when to insert those pesky diminished and minor seventh flat fifth chords that no three chord wonder ever knew about. Now I can play All Of Me and Autumn Leaves, and that's only from the A's. If you like to entertain an audience, you can't go wrong buying this collection. Check out the complementary Composers volume, too.

A Great Songbook
I'm an intermediate piano player and find the music accessible to me. I was surprised at how many of the songs I knew.
