Pursuit V Spinning Reel

This was my first Penn reel and definitely impressed me beyond what I expected. I have this reel on a 11’ surf rod and fish the Gulf and Atlantic so it takes a beating and it doesn’t shows no signs of wear.

As advertised , it's smooth operation and durability ,for sure , I used this reel after catching 10 to 18 pound Strippers with this model , I took it to Alaska for Salmon and it proved it self again . With my respect Penn products are of high quality, but this reel is great . I recommend this product to anyone who needs something to get the job done. Thank you.

I highly recommend this real. It’s so smooth. You don’t have to break it in like the older style pursuits. I highly recommend.

What can’t you say, it’s a Penn. Have always had great access with there reels and rods and this one is no diffeeent. Bagged a nice 30# red and put up a great fight.

Bets its good if you buy it from a store

Used with for saltwater with an 11ft pole. Did great. No issues pulled fish in without hesitation.

Great reel for the money , I love Penn reels there easy to take apart and work on and will last a very long time if cared for !

I’ve recently gotten back into fishing after decades of no fishing and I've used this Penn Pursuit V 6000 for a bit now, and honestly, I’m really impressed for the price. It feels solid in the hand and handles saltwater use pretty well as long as you rinse it after trips. It has a very smooth action and I've missed that sound when reeling in. I wanted this size so I could also use it as a beach caster if needed ( recently gotten back into fishing and don't have a lot of gear yet ) and I already own a Penn size 3000 for spinning only. The drag is nice and smooth It’s not the fanciest reel out there, and you can tell the body isn’t as heavyduty as more expensive models, but for what you pay, it definitely does the job. The spool being braid-ready is a nice bonus too, saves a bit of hassle when setting up. Only small downside is it’s not fully sealed, so you do need to take care of it if you’re using it in saltwater regularly. Overall, great value for money. If you want a reliable reel without spending a fortune, this is a solid choice. Versatile and very well made, I'm really happy with it, I’d definitely recommend it.

I took up sea fishing again fairly recently after many years away from it. Most of my rods and reels are quite old, and despite servicing the reels, they’re starting to struggle. I currently have three ABU multipliers and two relatively new but fairly budget fixed-spool reels. My nephew and I have also decided to take our beach fishing a step further, with plans to buy a tandem fishing kayak in the next few months, so it felt like the right time for a tackle overhaul. I’ve already added a Penn Tidal XR Beachcaster and a Penn Prevail III Beachcaster to my setup. I got this PENN Pursuit V reel to use with either of those rods. I spooled it with braided line and plan to add a fluorocarbon leader. Initially, I had some issues with how the line was laying on the spool, but removing the pre-installed washer and replacing it with the supplied thinner one largely solved the problem. The spool holds a significant amount of line, especially when using braid. I may swap it out in the future for a spool with a smaller capacity, but for now it’s more than adequate. This is a fairly large, hefty reel, but that also means it’s capable of handling bigger challenges. It gives me the option to use it on my Penn boat rod when we’re out on the kayak, either for trolling or bottom fishing. As you’d expect from Penn, the build quality is very good. It feels solid and robust, the mechanism is smooth, and the retrieve is nice and quick. Due to time constraints and poor weather, this is currently a “dry” review, as I haven’t yet had the chance to fish with it. I’ll update the review once I’ve used it properly and can see which of the two beachcasters it performs best with. Hopefully this review, along with the accompanying photos, helps others make a more informed purchasing decision. Thanks for reading.
