Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications

Decent book.
Discrete Mathmatics and Its Applications (6e) by Kenneth H. Rosen is a very nice book. Everything looks really nice and the first chapter at least is pretty easy to understand. (I have taken up to Calculus 4 in college.) The big thing is I had to get this book for a class in the summer 2011. So there wasn't much choice for me. The one major issue I have seen is the answer in the back of the book are limited which means I'll probably be spending a lot of time working on homework.Having seen some really bad math books I gave this one a 5.WARNING: Be prepared to read a lot!!! This is not a look at example book. You will have to read a lot and work hard to understand it but I've come to realize college math is like that.Anyways, best of luck with your studies.

Most of the topics, such as propositional logic and introduction to different proofs, are explained very well and clearly. I really enjoyed reading these sections and even read them on my own (without it being assigned for homework!) A few other topics, like the Chinese Remainder Theorem, are not as clearly presented and made me confused. In the end a Youtube video on the CRT was what saved the day. Rosen explains most discrete math concepts well save for a few.

better than the rest
many of the complaints that you read have some validity. i still like it more than most other texts available, because it nicely uses computer science examples (as is clearly stated by the author) AND has a VER through study guide.Rosen's study guide is thicker than most texts. VERY detailed answers so that you can actually figure out why you got the wrong answer. i would pay more for the study guide than i would for 90% of the krapp being sold today. too many authors take the cheap cop-out of "letting the student explore on their own" = lazy author.get the study guide, you'll be happy you did.

Really between 3 and 4 stars, but ...
Good:- The breadth of coverage.- Well designed, progressive (and plentiful) exercises at the end of each chapter, many with the solutions in the back of the book.Bad:- Not the clearest of explanations.- Sneaked in a few concepts/definitions in examples which should've been better called out.- Heavy (as in weight from mass) ...Ugly:- 7th edition came out, so the resell value of the 6th edition plummeted.Note: I'm pretty comfortable with the subjects covered, plus I have other books for reference; otherwise, I may have wanted to retain this text. A borderline keeper, depending on taste and what else is already on one's shelves. As a textbook, it's not bad, but not great either.

It's beyond my expect
I have a course of this and my teacher recommend this book. Actually what she says is totally based on this book so I know I'd better buy one. The new book at my campus store is $150 and too expensive for me. Although this book is marked "used", but its condition is very very good. Just like a new book!! I can't believe I can spend only $37 to get this book. I will buy more used book at amazon for sure :D

Discrete Mathematics
This is a very good product. The print is good quality and easy to read. The Amazon.com agent that provided the e-copy was very quick to respond to the order, taking only minutes to download. The only qualm I have with the electronic download version is that some of the pages are a bit off-centered. Not much mind you, but in some (only a few)instances on the problems it makes it a bit more challenging to do a copy and paste for homework purposes.

Well written, easy to understand, perfect for Comp Sci and Soft Eng students
The most well written book on one of the most difficult subjects that I have ever seen. Includes lots of practical example questions and directly ties in for students in Computer Science and Software Engineering programs.
