Nice shallow install speaker for my boat. The sound is very good, with no distortion.

In my mind a product review should not only rate the product on a scale, but in the context of its use. What may be a bad review by reviewer often hinges on whether the application was appropriate. This review should help those buying these types of speakers decide if their application fits this speaker. That said . . . 1 Application: Installed in 2001 SAAB Viggen Convertible with a 6 speaker system (Harmin Kardin Premium system, head unit powers dash and rear side speakers, 45 Watt Amp powers front door speakers) 2 Reason to buy: Have upgraded front 3.5 inch to Polk, and rears are 6.5 Infinity. All speakers capable of handling much more powerful system, but also respond nicely to the current power profile. 3 Location: Door speakers are basically mid-woofers, so no signal (crossover restricted) to these Polk DB615s. Knew that in advance, but more on that later. 4 Reviewer's Listening Habits: Eclectic (Not to be confused with Spastic!) Rock to Jazz to Classic--Mostly Rock/Jazz in the car--wide Dynamics. 5 Analysis: Bass response on these speakers is excellent, for mid-range bass frequencies. Matched OEM for enough bass response to enjoy heavy bass rock (Meatloaf, Allman Bros.) and crisp enough for Jazz (Rippingtons). Used Elton John's Funeral for a Friend and Love Lies Bleeding for test response (New CD 30th Anniv ed). Impressed. As with all convertibles, you need strong speakers up front with the top dropped at 75mph. Mid-bass still excellent at lower volumes with top up. If you are expecting a bass like you get from an 8" or bigger sub--forget it, that's not what these speakers are for. I think this is the bad rap these speakers get from those who want to give a low frequency massage to the car next to them from their own bass. I also think these need the extra power from a separate amp (if you have a minimum factory system in your car) to get the full response. Even though I'm not using the tweeter, it compares with the 1" dome in the dash speakers, and the highs in those are crisp and clean. So I expect the same from these when I upgrade the whole system. I also needed slim speakers for the amount of space in the door. Usually when I buy a car (Older Saabs, Mitsu 3000GT VR4) I always dropped in at least 900-1200 watts of power and a sub. With my Viggen, I need to replace the entire head unit, amp, 6-disc player to upgrade to what I want--read 1000 watts here. These speakers will handle the system I intend to drop in in the next 6-9 months, and I'll add a sub. Should be rockin'! 6 Biases/Preferences/Experience: I've never had any problem with Polk speakers, either in my cars or at home (Still Blasting my Polk Monitor 10s, 2s, 4s with new Denon 2311CI in a 7.1 system). I listen to a wide range of music which means wide dynamics--Polk does this well without breaking the bank. Also had good luck with Infinity in auto speakers, and high-end Alpine. Hope this helps you decide if these are the speakers for you. Crutchfield charges twice as much, but you get the conversion bracket for your car, not worth 50 bucks if you don't need it or know you can modify. I knew what I had, and how to make the current box/bracket in the door work by a few mods and longer screws. Also using XTC baffles.
