Hybrid Theory is the debut album by the American rock band Linkin Park, released on October 24, 2000 through Warner Bros. Records. The album was a commercial success, having been certified Diamond for sales of over 10 million units in the United States alone as of 2010, peaking at number two on the Billboard 200, and also reaching high positions on other charts worldwide. Recorded at NRG Recordings in North Hollywood, California, and produced by Don Gilmore, the album's lyrical themes deal with problems lead vocalist Chester Bennington experienced during his adolescence, including drug abuse and the constant fighting and divorce of his parents. Hybrid Theory takes its title from the previous name of the band as well as the concept of music theory and combining different styles. Four singles were released from the album: "One Step Closer", "Crawling", "Papercut", and "In the End", all of them being responsible for launching Linkin Park into mainstream popularity. While "In the End" was the most successful of the four, all of the singles in the album remain some of the band's most successful songs to date. Although "Runaway", "Points of Authority", and "My December" from the special edition bonus disc album were not released as singles, they were minor hits on alternative rock radio stations thanks to the success of all of the band's singles and the album. At the 2002 Grammy Awards, Hybrid Theory was nominated for Best Rock Album. The album is listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. It was ranked #11 on Billboard's Hot 200 Albums of the Decade.A special edition of Hybrid Theory was released March 11, 2002, a year and a half after its original pressing. Hybrid Theory has sold 27 million copies worldwide, which makes it the best selling debut album of the 21st century. Linkin Park performed the album in its entirety for the first time at the Download Festival on June 14, 2014 Review: Gran disco Review: I remember the first and only time I watched Linkin Park in concert. If new to music, new to the rock scene in general, or new to Linkin Park, this is a must listen album! Papercut - An awesome opening track for an album, and when someone tells me to give them a song to listen to by them, this is a track that always comes to mind. Has bright, vibrant, filling guitar from Brad, has rapping from Mike, has nice, bright singing from Chester, and even a little vocal frying from him at the end of every chorus. One Step Closer - A very, angst-y if you will, track. No doubt about it though a very good track still, with Chester pulling impressive tasks with his voice in this track. Again, a song that aged okay, but can most definitely can still be loved and appreciated by people like me in 2018. With You - An okay track in my opinion, good rapping from Mike, excellent vocal skills yet again with Chester, but not as catchy or easily liked as other tracks on this album. I really like this one performed live however, Chester does a massive scream a majority of the time that's completely awesome! Points of Authority - A loved track by many, in my opinion I like it okay. Catchy lines by Mike, and I really like the drumming on this track too. Crawling - A track known by many, even if not a Linkin Park fan. Mostly seen by many as one of their meme songs because of how angst and such this track is seen as, it's still a good listen. Runaway - A powerful track in my opinion, very good vocal work from Chester, and I love the guitar on here from Brad also. By Myself - Easily my least favorite track on this album. Very few times have I wanted to intentionally listen to this track, can be very annoying after a few listens to say the least. BUT my all time favorite when it comes to live performances. Live in Texas has an awesome build up leading to this song, and Chester jumping all around while doing, what I think, were some of his best screams ever! In the End - The other meme song, and easily one of the more catchy and poppy tunes off this album. Not a bad track by any means, but a little over rated. A Place for My Head - I love the guitar work on this track, very good vocal work from Chester with nice and quick control over his voice to go very quickly from whispering to screaming (even if done in separate tracks/ takes, he's able to pull it off live) good rapping from Mike, and an overall stable track. Forgotten - Some days I feel this track, other days not so much. The rapping on this track is one of my favorites by Mike, along with quick finger work on the guitar from Brad. And this is one of my favorite tracks on the remix album; Reanimation. Cure For the Itch - An awesome turntable song from Joe Hahn. Nothing more to say. It's Mr. Hahn. Pushing Me Away - One of my favorite closers to an album. More importantly one of my favorite LP songs in general. Brad's guitar work really shines through the whole song, Chester's vocals are as strong as ever, and it's just an overall good track Album rating 1-10 (10 being the best) 8.5/10
