Madison Reed hair color
I like the Madison Reed brand. I've been using their Medium Chocolate Brown for years. It's gentle on my hair and skin, and the dye color has been consistent throughout. Gray coverage is very good, but not perfect. Two weeks after coloring, a little silver begins to show through, though not enough to make me want to switch brands.

Great product
Long lasting color. True to color. Not harsh on hair (I used light brown). Easy on the scalp when applied. Worth the the price Highly recommended.

Amazing color
I absolutely love this hair dye and will definitely be purchasing it again. The results truly feel salon-qualityโnothing like the cheaper, more commercial dyes Iโve tried before. The color comes out rich, vibrant, and incredibly shiny, and it lasts much longer than I expected. My hair looks healthy and professionally done every time I use it. Iโm so happy I finally found the perfect hair dye for me. Highly recommend!

Might be great for short hair or hair not previously colored. For me? Awful.
I used Light Golden Red, &7NCG, Genova Red. On the package, the color looked like an exact match for my original hair color. (I have just enough grey, here & there throughout my hair, to want to cover it... for now, anyway. Vanity... right? lol ) I fell in love with Madison Reed's packaging and the thoughtfulness shown in this very complete hair color kit. The messaging in it dazzled me, as well. Using the product, I didn't care for the smell of it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some ammonia-based hair color products. So far, so good. In addition, I was impressed by how much hair color was included. Even with long, thick hair, I was able to cover everything from the roots to the very longest tips of my hair, and do so completely. The included shampoo and conditioner were both lavish and generous. Again, as someone with very thick hair, this was appreciated. But then, fresh from the shower, I looked in the mirror. Umm... It looked like the color coverage wasn't consistent. Not even close. Worse, when my hair was dry, the color at the top of my head was spectacular, but starting at about ear level, the color was much darker. Indoors, it looks almost black. On someone as fair-skinned as me, the effect was jarring. Suddenly, every freckle and laugh line seemed more obvious. This was NOT flattering. Oddly, the ends of my hair barely took any color at all. That was fine, because naturally colored hair is usually lighter (sun bleached) at the ends. In the accompanying photo, my head is tilted, so I'm looking up. You're seeing the top of my head as well as my back. Also, that picture was taken on a slightly overcast day, so the variations in color aren't due to extreme lighting. It looks far worse indoors, but I think the photo conveys the essense of the problem. Note: It's been a few years since I was a hair model, but I picked up a lot of hair coloring tips from the pros. So, I'm still mindful of the importance of coloring my hair thoroughly and consistently, and following package directions - to the letter - for the best results. In other words, it's not as if I smothered the top of my head with hair dye, and just loosely spread the rest of my hair with far lighter coverage. Likewise, I didn't douse the middle (now darkest) band of my hair with extra color, or omit coloring the ends, either. To me, it looks like this hair color should not be used on long, previously colored hair. I'd ask for a refund if I had anything to return to the seller, but - of course - I used the complete package. So, at best, that was a waste of $30. I'm going to wait a week so my hair has time to recover, and then I'll be using an "oops!" products to remove the Madison Reed hair color. Fingers crossed, it'll restore how my hair looked before using Madison Reed's hair color. (If that doesn't work, Plan B is to streak my hair with blonde. At worst, it'll look "artsy.") I'll agree that the Madison Reed hair color at the top of my head looks exactly as I'd hoped. It's very close to the color shown on the product's packaging. The probem is: The rest of my hair looks awful. If your hair is short - and, preferably, has never been colored before - you may love Madison Reed. For me, this was an extremely distressing experience. Fortunately, I work at home. This week, only my family will see my hair. If I go out, I'll wear a hat. Then, my hair will look oddly dark with almost blonde sun-bleaching at the ends. Short-term, I'm okay with that. I was tempted to give this product two stars because the packaging was a delight to read, and the included gloves, cap, shampoo, and conditioner were wonderful extras. However, I'm so disappointed by the product itself, I have to give this one star, and share my experience with others, so they don't make a similar mistake.

It works!
I'm writing this review to help someone perhaps having the same problem as i do. I've been having gray hair since high school and it's gotten worse and worse by year, especially when I'm under stress. I've always hated it but didn't bother to cover it because going to salon for this would cost so much and i'd need to go every couple of months. Lately I have some free time, and one Youtuber I followed recommended this, so thought I could try and see what are all the fuss about. Luckily, this really works to cover my gray. And the color i bought is not super black, it looks just like my natural black color! (3.5 NNN darkest brown Raveena Brown) No one can even tell I've dyed my hair. I can still see a few gray hair but i feel it's because i didn't apply evenly enough on that layer. This is my first time doing it at home, and I have to say it's such a mess and so exhausting to hold your arms up for that long. It'd be much better if you have someone help you and apply it more evenly to get better result. I'm already beyond satisfied with how the final result looks but i think i can do better next time. The reason i'm giving 4 stars is that i feel 1. the bottle is not the easiest to squeeze, the first two squeezes are always just air. And if you are doing it on your own, it's hard to see whether or not, or how much cream you have squeezed out on top of your head. 2. It really should include one more pair of gloves, one more packet of protection cream, and one more cleansing wipe! It would help make the cleaning up much easier. 3. It feels a little itchy when having the cap on. I left it on for about 35 min, and I can feel the tingling on my head and was very eager to wash it off. All in all, I'd buy again and do it more regularly. I like looking into the mirror and not see gray unless i go look for it! I hope it can last at least two months.

Professional hair color at home? Yes, please! ๐ฅฐ
I'm obsessed with this hair color. I donโt have the time (nor do I want to spend the money) to get my hair colored at a salon. I've used 7NGV Light Golden Brown (Lucca Brown) for five years now, and itโs perfect. When Iโve gone to get my haircut, two hairdressers have complimented how lovely the color is, and both were surprised to learn I colored my hair myself at home. They said they never would have guessed I did it myself instead of in a salon. I love being able to color my hair when I have time, and I appreciate not having to sit in a chair for two to three hours. 10/10!! Highly recommend. โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

Overpriced and over-marketed, but one of the only dyes that don't horribly irritate my scalp.
Glad I can write this review and share my experiences with both the color and the company. Madison Reed is the only hair color I have found (yet!) that doesn't make my scalp itch tremendously (but it is not completely irritation-free). The company loudly touts their lack of chemicals and irritants in their product, but they omit such important things as FRAGRANCES, which they reluctantly acknowledge are in their hair color, if you question them. Still, I haven't found another brand (yet!) that covers my gray roots and has less irritation. Good color, but you pay a price for this product in several ways. You can't buy just the color, or the color and their developer, a la carte (I've tried, and they refused), you have to buy their whole "Kit," which includes things that I don't need, won't use, prefer my own choice of products, or am allergic to, ranging from plastic gloves and a "cap" to packets containing samples of their house-brand conditioner, shampoo, and cleansing wipe. That is their justification for charging $35.00 PLUS TAX FOR ONE SELF-APPLICATION "KIT." Also gotta pay for all that expensive advertising, marketing, unnecessary packaging, and patented formulas. I have to touch up my gray roots every three weeks, so that adds up. (Used to pay $9.99 for Wella professional products, until I developed sensitivity to them.) And that's the price you'll pay whether you buy the color online on their website, on Amazon, or at one of the few companies that sell it, such as Ulta or Walmart, or whether you go into one of their brick-and-mortar "Color Bars" and purchase it there. The only "discount" is a couple of dollars off if you subscribe and provide your credit card info and receive it automatically every couple of weeks, or buy multiple services and visits. BTW, if you live in a city that has a Color Bar, if you try calling the store's particular listed number, even though it may appear to be a local number with a local prefix, not an 800 toll-free number, YOU CAN'T GET THROUGH TO THE STORE, ONLY TO A CALL CENTER IN THE PHILIPPINES! And the agent there (if you can understand their English) can't/won't even transfer you to the store, even if you request them to do so. Also BTW, if you buy from the Madison Reed website or at their store, you have to go through hoops and divulge all sorts of private information, under the guise of them helping you find out which of their colors you need. You can't skip that step. And they won't take cash in their company stores, where they will apply their own color and just shampoo and rinse it out only, at these prices: "New Clients: $60 Roots or $92 All-Over Color (MonโWed)." They provide you a dryer to blow-dry your hair yourself! Otherwise, blowout is extra. So now when I have to buy a "kit," I go into a brick-and-mortar Ulta store (fortunately my city has several) that has the shade I need in stock-- be sure to check that ahead of time-- and purchase it there. It's unfortunate that there aren't other companies that can create a truly completely hypo-allergenic, fragrance-free, permanent hair dye product that doesn't irritate the scalp and also covers gray well. I'm sure there are a lot of us out there. Dermatologists I've gone to also sadly are clueless about this, for the most part. Hope someone reads this and does so and makes a lot of money! Are you listening, Jeff Bezos??!!

Leaves hair softer then less expensive brands.
Aa a male I've used the usual just for men dye but found it made my hair dry . I also tried permanent inexpensive dyes like clarol and found it to leave my hair dry as well so I decided to try a more expensive product that has high ratings. I have found this dye to leave my hair much softer and the color to look.more natural then the usual orange look. Its more expensive but worth it. Also, since I have short hair I am able to cut the bottle in half by squeezing half of each content into a cup so I get 2 colorings from one package. Its a little more work but worth it to have softer healthier looking hair.
