High is to use for speed warm up. I put cold water in the mug, and place it on the warmer. it spends 15 mins to warm up the water, and it is hot. i also like to warm up my wine, hum, it is tasty. it has the circle silicone cover the warmer plate to prevent breaking or scratches. it is a good product. Review: Terrible, the worst mug warmer I have ever had! - It looks nice, but that is about where anything good ends. I received the first one (which took a while), and the first time I used it, it got hot. I mean really nice and hot. Kept my coffee really well. Next time I went to use it, nothing. It stayed stone cold. Never got even slightly warm. I contacted the seller they sent me a new, which I received faster than the first one. This one did exactly the same. So I am guessing they have poor quality control. Low setting keeps my coffee plenty hot. I was concerned about the review saying you could only use solid flat bottom mugs, since my coffee cups have a solid flat ring with the inner bottom base recessed, but the warmer works just fine. Edited: it has stopped heating for some reason. The lights come on as if it is functioning, but neither the low nor the high setting actually causes the plate to heat up.
